When they going to save #3427, since you guys had a fairwell last 2 months ago. I hoping they save one of Neoplan-An440 Buses for the Bus Roadeo with the 1980 GMC RTS and the old GM Buses. and why they take Volvo #7011 to the Scrap yard with the other retired buses.

It's unfortunate that SEPTA saves practically nothing for a historic fleet. When you consider the 1000 GM old looks that many of us grew up on (not counting the 80 or so 'Davy Crocketts'), and the fact that not one was saved, it makes you wonder. This becomes especially painful when you look at the historic fleet that NYC has that it trots out regularly for view, etc.

What can we do to try and save a Neoplan An440?

The weird thing about #7011 being at Mdvale's scrapyard is that the bus hasn't been stripped. It's completely intact. Darryl Bulls

I've seen MTA-New York's historical fleet and I agree. SEPTA's historical fleet can't compare to theirs but they were apparently saving buses for their historical fleet many years before SEPTA. I also wish that SEPTA had saved some GMC Old Looks (a.k.a Green Hornets) for their historical fleet but I keep having this vision that some long-time bus enthusiast /historian will chime in and say that the GMC Old Looks were PTC Buses but they did operate as SEPTA buses well into the 1970s. Here's a bit of SEPTA Bus Trivia regarding the GMC Old Look Buses. #3846 was the very last GMC Old Look Bus retired by SEPTA in 1989. #3846 had served as a transportation instruction bus during the 1980s and 1990s. Darryl Bulls

All 25 of the 35-foot Neoplan AN435's are scrapped AFAIK.

You are correct, as late as 1975, every depot in the City Transit Division had some old looks, and except for Comly(they used them as school trippers), depots ran the old looks in revenue service during the week, regularly in some cases. It was commonplace to see them on the 3 & 5 routes, as well as any route in South Philadelphia.

3846 was the instruction bus. I don't think any old looks were repainted into SEPTA colors(there was one bus at Southern that was repainted in such a way as to discourage vandals from writing on the bus).

Can anyone tell me the number of the old look that SEPTA painted in order to discourage grafitti?
