I don't think 7011 will make an appearance this year at the SEPTA roadeo. Sorry

Take the test, pass it, go to college, graduate & perhaps you could be on the financial board that signs the checks for the SEPTA operators. Good luck. As for the roadeo, if only they save an 8600 from Midvale(like 8630). I loved the sound of a Neo in the 8285-8875(especially the 8500 group from Frankford & Red Arrow-like 8509 or 8569) when the bus was idled, parked, with the engine running & the sound of the HVAC unit. Anyone ever recall getting on an 8500 suburban assigned to Red Arrow & having to wait for the bus to pull out of the West Terminal(like 8574 on the 110 to Springfield or Broomall?) The tranquility of the vehicle. The mood of the general riding public. Waiting for the show to begin. |

I've remember riding on the 85xx's on the 105 daily. One time the driver had the hammer all of the way down Lancaster pike even though all of the curves! One thing about the 85xx is that those buses are more clinically compare to the 1982 Neoplans. |

Do you mean more cosmetically attractive as opposed to the 1982 Neos? As for the 8500s assigned to Red Arrow, they weren't rockets like their brethren assigned to Frontier(8411-8434). But once the driver got the bus(like 8571) to run, Oh, My, Goodness. And that was just on the 105. I nver really cared for the 104, but I spotted 8580 on the 104 from newtown Square on Tuesday, December 24, 1996. I would have loved to have riden this bus from West Chester to 69th Street Terminal in the evening hours. By that time, except for the north terminal routes, the 8500 suburbans assigned to Red Arrow were mainly Monday through Friday equipment. Which ones were your favorite? Mine were 8563, 8566, 8569 & 8574. I rode 8566 on the 105 right before it was retired(January 1997). Operator had the hammer down but he took the curves(like the ones in Devon/Berwyn) with caution. I used to ride the 65 to 69th Street periodically during the summer of 1996. Remember the wall (right off of Victory Avenue then the left turn into the SEPTA private busway)they used to line the buses up against on the weekends? A slew of 3100s, a handful of 3200s & several 8500s lined up against the wall. |

Do you mean more cosmetically attractive as opposed to the 1982 Neos? The exact opposite! |

Kyle, you do have a point. The 8500 suburbans in their final years of operation(1994- 1997) weren't really in the best condition. You could get on several of them & the cushions would either come loose or come right up when you got up. I'm sorry to say that these bues got worn out rather quickly. Seats were cut up. Marked on with magic markers. In some of them, you could find your lunch money for the day under those cushioned seats. The 8500s used to frequent the north terminal routes on Monday through Saturdays (105 & 106 didn't operate on Sundays or holidays, the 103 did & at that time, the 103 probably used a 3300 or 3400 suburban on Sundays & holidays, as well as the 108 & 113. I think their regular appearances on the 108 (particularly in the Eastwick area when school was open), as well as the 113 sort of led them to their early demise. |
