Well, I went to Frankford today, and found exactly what I expected: 3490 in the scrap line. I checked out the damage that was reported on the forums yesterday. The damage isn't all THAT bad - it was limited to the rear engine hood, essentially. The hood was bent quite out of shape - almost normal on the left, but completely bashed out on the right. If it was a New Flyer or NABI, Berridge could take care of that easily. Even a replacement hood would do the job. I wish I could've gotten a good picture, but it was parked directly in front of some New Flyer. Since this bus is a Neo that about to get retired anyway, this bus will likely not get fixed. It's somewhat disturbing, because I just saw that bus in service the other day. I thought about riding it, but, as I was focusing on farewell rides on my favorite Neos, I decided not to do so. So, I had my official final Neo ride ever...on my "friend", 3395, on route 73. It's somewhat significant since I knew 3395 from its frontier days, and it was the last Neo I took a picture of in Frontierland, and the first of the suburban Neos I took a picture of at Frankford, when all the Neos from the 'burbs moved to Frankford. Now, it's the last official Neo ride I'll ever have. MAYBE I'll go up to Frankford again soon to see how lucky I am, but as the school season is essentially over, I doubt I'll fare well. Especially since I saw 821 in service today. So, my "Neo-days" are now "transit days". I'll miss those buses so much...after all, without them, I wouldn't be the transit fan I am today...seriously. The great thing about today though was that i was finally able to get my Neoplan shot, of a Neo artic with a Neo 40fter - devine! |

06-26-08 There are only a few Neo's at Frankford. From what I hear , they are all getting scrapped. The fare boxes are out of all the ones that remain. We had our farewell trip, it was well timed. I personally think they should save 3427. Chuck Greene |

I'm old, 66 years, and have seen a lot of bus types. The AN440 is my favorite. That sound they make taking off is memorable. Chuck Greene |

The Neos are gone. While @ Frankford yesterday afternoon, I noticed that they weren't there anymore. |

As with most of you, I also grew up with the Neos. I remember when some of were @ Frontier before being reassigned when the Flyers arrived there in summer 2004. Some, especially 3481-3490, appeared on the 129 (mainly 6231 and 6232 blocks). I even remember riding 3324 a couple times on the 129. They will be sorely missed. |
