This past Monday I saw a Red Arrow Shark with a 7001 block on it. 7001 was last used when Southern had a portion of the 108. Well today I saw 5590 blocked 7002 on the 108 at 69th Street Terminal around 1:45 PM. I'm pretty much at a loss for words here, but did Southern get a piece of the 108 back and some buses to use on it? Anyone know anything further?

From TWU 234 website. Not sure if it answers your question..... May 13, 2008 ROUTE 108 We are pleased to report to the membership that we have been victorious in what we believe to be a milestone case in our Union’s history. A lot of members believed that the arbitration case filed against SEPTA for removing the route 108 out of Southern Depot and transferring it to Red Arrow / Victory Bus Division was not important to operators at other locations, and that the Union wasn’t really serious about winning the case. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, if this case had been lost by the union it would have been the end of job security as we’ve known it at SEPTA. The way the Authority fought the case proves the point. SEPTA wanted the arbitrator to agree that the Authority had the right to take work that has traditionally and historically been performed by Local 234 and move it out of the bargaining unit, simply because the work could be done cheaper somewhere else. In their attempt to win the favor of the neutral arbitrator and punish the members of Local 234 for making a decent living, SEPTA resorted to all kinds of underhanded and dishonest tactics. In fact, SEPTA stooped to an all time low by bringing in witnesses who had to retract their testimony in the middle of the hearing and commit border line perjury under oath. Other managers, who did not want to perjure themselves outright, came down with a case of selective memory and bogus arguments about Section 315 of the contract. After the hearings were over, SEPTA managers showed their true colors when they let it be known that they moved the Route 108 out of Southern because “they felt like it,” and that they didn’t care one bit about the contract they are legally bound to follow. The Local, on the other hand, based its case on the facts, the contract language, and sound arguments to beat SEPTA; proving that at least sometimes right can win over might when an arrogant employer attempts to bust a Union. The illegal transfer of the Route 108 represents only one of many efforts being made by the Authority to break long standing past practices and void as many signed agreements as possible. In this case, the Union won the battle, but the war still goes on, which means that with your help we will continue to fight tooth and nail on behalf of the members of Local 234!!! |

Asked a Red Arrow driver I know pretty well what was up with Southern and the 108. He told me that they have a couple of trips on the 108 THIS WEEK ONLY! He says there is a BIG sign at the depot telling everybody that. Southern has been fighting for their portion of the 108 back for the last two years. The driver I talked to told me Southern has a bunch of show offs and cry babies. Plus he added they tend to not show up on the 108 so why should Red Arrow give some of the work back to them? He also dismissed the arguement that Red Arrow can do the whole 108 cheaper than having Southern have a piece. |

Part of the 108 should be reassigned to Southern. Why? With the enhanced service that Red Arrow has initiated for the fall pickings, will they even have enough buses to assign to the 108 to cover service levels, let alone other routes? The last thing that ANY depot needs this upcoming fall is a BUS SHORTAGE. |

Let me tell u something, as a Septa operator don't get caught up in the depot vs. depot hype as Septa has it set up that way on all lines that are shared between districts. C-Midvale & Southern-Each district will whine that the other is doing this & that but even if a line is housed out of one location they'll do it to their own location, so don't feed into that non-sense about Southern being crybabies. Victory is mad cause when u lose work you lose seniority with it & u can't blame them, but Southern had the Rt. U that got consolidated with the Rt.108 back in the day so it's only fair that both districts share it. WE ALL WORK FOR SEPTA SO WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE |

IS block 4 a Southern Block number? Because a few days back, I saw 8005 on route 108 and the block number was 4. |

That was probably block 7004 you saw. The driver just probably didn't bother to enter the complete 4 digit block #. 8005 is definitely a Southern bus. |
