5007 on C, 3557 block @ 4:25pm en route to City Hall on 10-14-08.

The 5000s assigned to Callowhill(or formerly were)have their issues, but I think that the Southern group of 5300s are indeed the worst of the NABI buses.

5002 on the 44: about 50mph. max. If you're riding with an "oldhead", maybe 55mph, maybe.

5382 on a deadhead from Southern to "wherever": 40mph on the expressway.
max.
I thought Southern NABIs were the best maintained NABIs on the fleet? no?

Comly's are the best maintained. Southern has tinted windows but Comly has bothe tinted windows and cushioned Seat inserts in the buses. Now if we can work on Comly NABI Destination sign's we are good.

Well all NABIS have a top speed of anywhere from 50-55 mph even though its shown otherwises on their speedometers, as I mention in another thread its more then likely a speedometer bug. Why? because 5042 speedometer top speed was 60 mph one day of a week then later in the week it was 55. Then the next week it was 75mph then reverted down to 40 mph. Trust me in order to change speeds on the NABIs that drastically, that will require a final axle change which costs $$$$. There's no way that within a few days SEPTA will consistently replace the axles on the NABIs, albeit it requires man hours to perform this task. The truth is buses age and their devices age once these devices wear and tear they become more and more null void in everyday operations. That could be one of the reasons why fuel gauges were removed from buses (if I'm wrong then someone please correct me).

If some NABIS were set to 40mph, then the engine will sound completely different and they will shift like the zfers flyers. Its a stupid move to limit the engine to just 40 mph considering the rpms will be extremely high at lower speeds the higher the rpms, the increase wear and tear to the engine and transmission.

so it would make sense for the engines in the Ikaruses/NABI's to be set to 50-55 mph, then right?
And does anyone know the assignments of all of the new DE41LF's coming in?

Yes...

Well as it stands now 8120-8164 are going to callowhill, 8165-8199 are going to comly and the remainder is unknown but Victory/Frontier or Southern is likely.

CA: Are you sure 5002 was not on the route 9 or deadhead instead? Because its been spotted on Midvale routes recently....

I was using 5002 as an example. As it stands, 5002 is the oldest SEPTA bus on SEPTA property running in revenue service.

No, I didn't spot 5002 on the 9.

yes of course its newer its a NABI, not an American Ikarus, but the original 5001 was sent back to American Ikarus because the specs were rejected by SEPTA, but American Ikarus then changed its name to NABI in the middle of SEPTA's order and 5001 was the last bus sent in by NABI, but it is also a completion sequence #, it wouldn't make any sense to have 5002 and so on and not have 5001.

I know the story of 5001, I just want to know why It couldn't stay at Callowhill. Midvale should get some of those 5200's if Callowhill really needs room for hybrids.
