I don't understand why night service on the 37 terminates at Harrah's. They should send it to Chester T.C. for a connection with the 109.

On the subject of poorly timed connections, one instance I noticed is the nightliners of the 65 and the 108. The 108 leaves for UPS at 2:25, while the 65 isn't schduled to arrive unil 2:29.

Lol, I can imagine 5201 flying down Lansdowne Ave at 2:23 doing 50 mph with a host of impatient UPS employees in an attempt to make the connection with the 108.
I thought Allegheny ran the night owl portion of the 65.

I thought 5201 was at midvale or are you talking about block numbers, which in that case I thought that 5201 was Allegheny.... either way, I'm confused...
Why is everything being moved so much?

5201 is the block number everyone is talking about.

What do you mean, does everyone know the driver?
because I don't. I know only two drivers: 5053 and 1367

Allegheny does run the night owl portion of the 65, and that block is 5201. The NABI bus 5201 is currently situated at Midvale, as septakid said.

If you ask me, I think the 65 needs better owl service. If you miss it then you have to wait 70 minutes for 5201 to come back (I believe that is the only bus out there). The 65 should be every 40 minutes.

I think the 9 should run overnight. But only from Ridge-Cathedral to Wissahickon T.C.
On Tuesday July 11, 2006, I rode an inbound 9 from Roxborough to Central Philadelphia shortly after 5 am(3751 block). I knew the operator, an operator who started over @ Germantown who went to Luzerne with a route(18?). He tried it all.

Case in point, he had a NABI. This was the first run coming from Upper Roxborough. This bus was damn near standing room only. There had to have been at least 35 to 39 people on this bus.

If you miss that 9, you may end up waiting for 30 minutes before the next one comes along.

And this is @ 5 in the morning.

I love Roxborough. I really do. I enjoy the melting pot that Roxborough has to offer.

But keep in mind that along route 9 from Wissahickon to Ridge & Summit, the line passes at least 5 to 7 watering holes.

The taverns close @ 2am.

The 5th police district is located @ Ridge & Cinnaminson.

philabob1, correct me please. I don't think Roxborough has those stop & gos that are prevalent in a majority of the communities serviced by the Allegheny, Callowhill & the North Philly side of Midvale networks.

With all of that in mind, I have a suggestion for route 9.

Have the line run all night on Friday night/Saturday morning & Saturday night/ Sunday morning to accomodate all of those coming from Central Philadelphia.

I understand that people have different needs & obligations. I am aware of this.

However, for the most part, the 9 has a good track record when transporting civilized riders that appreciate SEPTA, even the small & stupid things.

Any late-night or owl service on 9 that doesn't go to or come from Center City will fail. In my experience, both in early AM and late PM, there is a demand in both directions for this. If you ride 9 at these times you'll notice that outbounds are crowded leaving 30th St and it's pretty much exit only once you're off the Expressway, save for a handful of riders who may get on at Wissahickon.

As CA observed, there are many 'watering holes' along Ridge Ave, including about a half-dozen within a couple of blocks of the 5th Police HQ. There are almost none of the stop & go's (one showed up in the Green Lane area a few years ago and the neighbors managed to get it closed down), and I think much of this is related to the numerous watering holes. Many of the employees of these establishments ride the 9, in addition to some customers.

As I stated before, maybe all-night service isn't warranted, but some service is needed until about 2:15 or so leaving Cathedral and perhaps the same time out of Center City. The first run from Cathedral, at 5:05, is often standing room only by the time it hits Wissahickon Loop, so an earlier run (maybe 4:45 out of Cathedral) would be useful as well.

One thing to consider is the demand for workers to get to the Metroplex and apparently 27 doesn't start early enough for some employees. Maybe a modified 9 extended to it in the overnights would be useful for their purposes as well.

5201 is the block (not the bus) that people are referring to in this thread, which is an Allegheny block. I dunno who knows this driver, or if anyone even knows the driver. I sure don't, and I don't care to ride the 65 at that hour of the night to find out, because I sure have no business on the 65 at that hour of the night.
