As per questions and plans discussed at the SEPTA Capital Budget meeting this morning, here is some information you'll be interested to hear:

1. Planning for possible replacement of the Neoplan articulated buses will not begin until 2011. The study will indicate whether the new purchase will be less, same amount, or more articulateds. Contrary to rumor, there are NO plans to place articulated buses at Callowhill, whether now or with the new order.

2. Included in the study is incorporating replacement of the Eldorado fleet starting in 2011. To be considered will be whether to order new 30-foot buses, 35-foot buses, or even 40-foot buses (or a combination of one or more bus types).

So consequently, in 2011, we will be facing replacement of 155 articulateds and 80 Eldorados with 235 new buses, but the mix of what will be what remains to be seen, but may not be just artics and 30-footers...

Disclaimer: Please take anything you hear from depot gossip with a grain of salt...and wait till official words come down from on high at 1234, so to speak....

Are the Neo's really going to be leaving so soon? They won't be around almost 20 years like the An440s?

Well not surprising really as we been saying that RFPs needs to be put out first before proceeding to purchased these additonal buses. Myself and another PTV manager who works in this industry says its a long process. 2011 for the planning to start. but their 12 year life cycle will end 2013 for most of these units with the exception of 7101-7110.

Nope. I have a feeling SEPTA would love to dump those artics sooner but are bound by that 12 year policy.

The AN440s were very special...

Did our friend throw a shoe at Pat Deon at the mention of replacing the Dorados with 40 footers?

Were there any other buses that Lasted for 20 years besides the Neoplan AN440's and the AMG 10240-E's?

That would be a excellent topic to discuss in the general history Category. Not in this thread.

I'll post the topic,

Also, why didn't SEPTA retrofit the Neoplan AN460's with Cummins ISL's, ISM's or CAT C9's?

The new federal emmission regulations apply to diesels built after 2003 Model Year. In SEPTA's eyes that would only apply to the 5600's and after since the DDC50 motors in them WOULD fail the new standards, set to go in 2011 (i believe).
