It is Sunday Evening with Septafan on Rt. 57, In front of 5667 who is also on 57. NOW say WHAT?!?!? Back 2 back buses on the 57, and especially on da weekend. They're supposed to be 20 minutes apart. It just shows Midvale can't keep their schedule on a Southern Route, and how Midvale screws Southern over. Always choose the best who wipes out the rest (Southern). And NEVER use Midvale who is the Worse and never comes in 1st. Septafan, SouthernSeptaRida215, and all members of Southern Depot approve this message. |

I live in Midvale territory (for the next 8 days left before leaving for Pitt) and they are the best. Screw all other depots in the system MIDVALE rocks! Hell yeah! We had the first ISL overhauls, the most Neoplan artics, serves the best part of the city, the list goes on.

yea whopdie doo! Although, midvale buses (even though they throw the crap on them) usually performs the best, 5002 was slacking at Callowhill, but when it went to midvale, it had the best 3 months of it's life.. Southern, on the otherhand... well... why does some the 5300 series run like they are 284946 years old... the only good performing buses in southern is the NFI buses... well, some of them anyway. now to end the depot vs depot wars: Midvale also has some of the rudest drivers. the only nice people at midvale are stuck driving the crosstown routes... which sorta drains the niceness out of them Southern has some pretty bad maintence, even though some of their buses run on time, the driver can't be too sure that the bus will make it through the whole day... i can't tell you how many times a 8000 series broke down on a C in the rain.... All depots got their flaws, the best thing we can do is sit here and take it... seriously, no matter how many emails i sent to SEPTA, none of them (except for the hybrids on the schedule cover) were actually taken care of, it almost seems as if they lied about their whole customer service thing! They don't really care what the people want! Those hybrid buses weren't really for the environment, especially if they are that slow on purpose! -shuts up- |

I am torn. That's all I can say. You said "the 5300 series", so you automatically excluded the best Brick in the system: 5400! And I prefer the 8000s over the 5600s because of the pleasant ZF sound accompanied with a swift flying bus. My 8105 recording is my ALL-time favorite New Flyer recording EVER. Blocks 7101 and 7111 are the most diligent runs. Southern is well on-schedule. Midvale is still a good depot because of the variety. The only public city district with El Dorados, an oddball Brick, as well as 40 artics, and four different kinds of New Flyers. SouthernSeptaRida215, you, Septafan and I should make a Southern-fan-club. (unfortunately I don't live sown there but still...) Edited by Trainwizard, Aug 17 2009, 09:03 AM.

Oh yeah the best Cummins Overhaul my A**, if they're so good then why wasn't 5667 on the 57 long-gone 3rd street NB and 4th street SB. Instead of Septafan playing follow the leader. Two times once NB and again SB. 8096 would have left 5667 in the dust with the real Cummins engine. If you guys don't know Southern and Midvale do not like each other. They have like a war on the routes they split. So yeah before you can say the 5600 kicks A**. Make sure you don't see back to back 57s, especially on the weekend when they're suppose to be 20 minutes apart. Because last time I checked 5667 was running on Septafan's schedule 8096. Like 5667 was 15 minutes in the hole. Oo and also if the 5600s are so good with that Cummins. Then what happen with 5667, ya exactly. Oo and bad maintenance if I'm correct Southern has one of the best maintenance right up there with Allegheny. Last time I checked I didn't see a 50XX @ Midvale in a while. While Southern has like 14 50XX. Oo and the 51XX Midvale gave to Southern don't even go into service that often. They go right to the shops on 19th street. They see more time getting work done instead of running the streets. And Southern DE40LFs can leave Midvale's DE41LFs in the dust. It just shows Southern has the EDGE over Midvale as of Right Now. If Southern has bad maintenance then how come they got the last D40LFs, the first two D40LFs, the last Nabi, and still have some 50XX still which most of the drivers don't even mind to use because they have been overhauled. Yo Buswizard I'm cool with that, if you have a cell phone number or AIM account tell me in a personal message. |

Wow...Southern vs Midvale. Midvale is notorious for the pieces of junk they operate...they tie with Comly for the worst buses out there. Oh yeah, they do have a whole bunch of slowbrids, right? Tsk, another strike against them. However, how in the world can you put a 5600 vs an 8000? The 5600 is clearly faster, unless Midvale managed to mess that up. When they were repowered and you started taking off (you know, a proper take-off where the pedal is actually pressed down, which many Midvale operators do not do), you were pressed back into your seat. I'll state that I'm a fan of Southern's because, well, they run buses through some precarious areas of Southwest Philly and their buses still look fantastic. Midvale...well....not quite. |

Um, you do realize that the 4 digit run numbers that start with "3" are Midvale runs, and the ones that start with "7" are Southern, right? I find the exact opposite to be true, sir. Those 8000s run VERY well...and they are roughly 4 years old now. Plus they run through some of the not so nice areas of Philly, and still look good. It's always a pleasure riding Southern - unfortunately, my travels don't take me that way that often. However, I will always be beholden to Midvale for fixing up my Neos 3487 and 3488 when Frontier essentially gave up on them. And I'll ALWAYS remember the "Neoplosion" of 2005, the summer where Midvale threw those Neoplans out on any run whenever they wanted to. |

Southern may have the best maintained and fastest buses, however officially in SEPTA's eyes Southern has the most careless drivers. This is primarily due to the speed of the 5600s and 8000s. I have talked to a few SEPTA people and this has been mentioned on more than occassion. SEPTA cites accidents such as the G bus running into the back of the trailor on Oregon Ave and the accident involving the wheelchair at 8th and Spring Garden. What ever happened to that driver anyway? So Southern has the speed but they need to slow down. Don't know much about Midvale because rarely ride on their equipment. |

You made some pretty bold statements there which shows you rarely ride on buses in South Philadelphia or Southern buses in general. Out of the 8 bus depots throughout the system, Southern has the best maintained buses and various reports which my eyes crossed over the years proves my sentiments. There was one report that out of 200 or so buses only 10 were kept off to the side for minor issues and this was only several months ago. Also, I live on the route G and can vouch for Southern for keeping both their fleet of NABIs and New Flyers well maintained. In fact I can vouch as far back to the 1982 Neoplans which they had... As soon as the Comly NABIs came to their fleet back in September of 2008, there was a audio-able difference between that fleet of nabis and the Southern fleet. They sounded extremely tired and rattled. Several months later, those issues were corrected and these nabis sounded like the rest of the nabis at Southern. On the lower end the 56xx are indeed faster, but after 20-25 mph or so the 8000/2004 overhauls is where they start showing their true shin. Ridden on 5817 on the 44 today and it climbed the incline on I-76 near the 676 expressway better then any diesel I've ridden on this includes the 56xx!! I was extremely surprised!! It's speedometer still had the bus in 4th gear around 47mph with perfect acceleration!! Well one question, were you guys just coming into service or was you guys in service for the majority of the day. You don't know the conditions on the route 47 coming northbound. Sometimes you have a overcrowding situation and excessive red lights/wheelchairs which could easily put a bus behind schedule. It really all depends what has happened! The 56xx series are fast, but catching the lights can either make or break whether or not you are on time or not. The problem with the slower hybrids is they were too damn slow and kept catching too many red lights therefore making them later!! |
