I believe all rear HVAC transit buses have a roof vent on the HVAC unit. Many with rear HVACs have the rear vent for extra ventilation but many New Flyer hybrid Articulated buses have the ventless rear HVAC door with the only vent to the AC on the roof of the coach. So if SEPTA gets New Flyer DE60LF(R)s with rear HVACs they will have no choice but to put the rear headsign on the rear wall instead of mounting it to the roof of the coach.

Oh they do and its in the rear-top section of the bus. Well New Flyer already figured out a design to have the rear sign on the top. This design should easily be adaptable to the Artic buses as welll...

At least they still have space for ad.

Its funny that members on this sight who happen to be employees of Septa who had inside insight on these buses as early as a yr. ago and as recent as a month or 2 ago was shot down so vigorously and ask not to bring it up again because it was no truth to it. Now that Septa confirms no one stands corrected thats just proof how we should respect every ones post.

My personal feeling is it will be New Flyer as the new artic choice. I also suspect they might increase the order count to possibly around 200.
Of course, and I'm thinking that New Flyer will manufactured a modified New Flyer DE60LF for SEPTA since SEPTA wanted A/C on the rooftop. I'm guessing that all A/C will be on the roof with the trailer unit equipped with a smaller size A/C to accommodate with the battery pack there also. And/Or, New Flyer can extend the length of the bus to fit this modification.

From looking at this pic. This is a New Flyer DE60LF with a rear HVAC. The interesting thing is. That this DE60LF has a ventless rear HVAC door. So my guess is SEPTA will get the rear HVACs on their New Flyer DE60LFs with the same ventless cover as this coach in the pic has.
Is the vent going to be in the roof at the rear of the bus?
CTA has no vents on the rear of their new DE60LF's. Only 4001 which was the pilot has the rear vents.

Its actually 4000 that has the rear vent. The rest of them do not. Baltimore MTAs DE60LFRs also do not have the vent on the rear HVAC cover.

Well no one shoot you down! We were just trying to state that the purchase to buy more buses is more involving then to just put an order out for more of them. As you can see the earlier RFPs are being put out.

I understand where you are coming from, and I apologize if you felt that your post was disrespected by the naysayers. Nobody (to my knowledge) said that SEPTA wasn't planning on buying more artics in the future - just not right NOW. The bold statements that New Flyer artics were in the process of being ordered/built were very suspicious, considering the fact that SEPTA neither added the purchase of articulated buses to the capital budget or mentioned it to the board/stakeholders. As Kyle said, while SEPTA is likely leaning to New Flyer, bus purchases are more complicated (those darn legal issues) than just going up to a manufacturer and saying "we want more buses" - at least when acquiring vehicles using Federal Funds.

Baltimore MTA always had allegations they were no longer purchasing new Articulated buses when the 95 & 97 NABI 436s were retired. And knowing their stupidity those buses were going to most likely not at all being replaced which was going to result in 20-30 missing runs per weekday. Especially on routes that depended on them. And guess what. Once Bob Ehrlich lost the governors election to Martin OMalley that plan changed. And now MTA has 30 2009 New Flyer DE60LFRs on their fleet and most sources say MTA will continue purchasing new Articulated buses every 12 years to keep them on high density routes. MARTA of Atlanta had Neoplan AN460s from 83 and they were retired with out being replaced by new Articulated buses. And the worse rumor Ive heard ever. NJT no longer purchasing new buses. Which had been a rumor at times last year on Transitalk that NJT was finished purchasing new buses period. But that turned out not to be true. Sometimes Im beginning to worry that Baltimore MTA will one year decide never again to purchase new buses. But knowing them. That wont stop them from retiring the existing fleet. MTA is soo short on buses they have to run buses with no AC on hot summer days. Even when the high temperature is over 100 degrees. As well as buses with malfunctioned fare boxes. Malfunctioned head signs. And they have even been assigned with those malfunctions.

I think this post got it all started lol.

Lets see how much money SEPTA has. One just can not say SEPTA needs to get this just to look cool. This is one lesson I just learned. :P The new restyled front and back may be a bit more costly than the standard 90's design. Lets see how much funding will be provided. With SEPTA of course
