Went out today in the snow to see how badly the storm hit the city, decided to walk downtown. Sidewalks were NOT shoveled well at all. Like in Philly, saw no Neoplan artics out, PAT had Gillig's on the EBA, a route normally served by the DD60 Neoplan artics. Seemed today mostly Gilligs were out, saw nothing but them (even rode a 05 hybrid #537X on the 61A back to Pitt). The T was running buses as a rail shuttle. PAT Website

Port Authority has up the new schedules for the first round of route changes this year. Starting April 4th the big overhaul begins! Download a pdf schedule and check out the new design. Unfortunately, non of the Rapid Routes will be running yet ( the R1-R8 that will offer fast service between Oakland and downtown, and you pay before you board). I wonder if PAT is waiting on those new artics before the service starts? All throughout the year more routes will be changed. Exciting times in Pittsburgh! :D

Hmm, I wish they would put the former 33X and 100 schedules (now the G1 and G2) in one brochure. That would be mondo convenient!

Rumor: PAT is getting New Flyer hybrids for the Rapid Routes! :D

Also, I will be riding New Castle Area Transit to New Castle from Pittsburgh. I want to ride one of their 6v92 powered Gillig Phantoms.

Yes. New Castle has some 1991 Phantoms from Foothill Transit. I saw one downtown yesterday, it surprised me when it turned and I expected to hear a Cummins engine, but instead heard a low grumble of what I believe is 6v92. So Monday morning I will be waking up really early to see if I can catch one to New Castle during the morning rush hour. I can do this and be back before my first class of the day at 3pm. :)

Correct, they are all gone. But I am about 100% sure about the Foothill Gilligs. During G20 I saw a New Castle Phantom and it had Cummins and an orange destination sign. The one I saw yesterday had a green destination sign, and the part telling the route was split off from the part saying the destination.

Like this (wasn't paying attention to the headlights):

So I went today to New Castle. This city is a transit fans dream. They have:

Orion 1's with 6v92
Gillig Phantom 30ft and 40ft with 6v92
Gillig Phantom 30ft with DD50
Gillig Phantom 40ft with Cummins ISL
Gillig Advantage with ISL/Voith

I rode there an Advantage and back a 6v92 powered Phantom. Videos/photos up later! :D
