Even though the Gillig BRT is meant for BRT use it has been used as a restyled Advantage as some TAs own them for non BRT use. Like RRTA. PART, BARTA. And a few others. Im surprised CAT and DART havent used BRTs as restyled Advantages. DART has 2 of them but only for Suburban use.
$17,000 additional dollars per bus for this style probably influenced their decision.

Oh man, thanks to the state failure on the transit funding shortfall in which they couldn't their legs fast enough to resolve it.

Quote:

Board members, CEO Steve Bland and transit union president Patrick McMahon all laid blame on the Legislature for failing to address a statewide transportation funding shortfall caused by the failure of Pennsylvania's plan to impose tolls on Interstate 80.

Quote:

"We didn't create this crisis. The Port Authority staff didn't create this crisis," Mr. Letwin said.

Quote:

"It's no one's fault in this room," Mr. McMahon said. "We all know where the responsibility lies. It's in Harrisburg."

And with 5 days to go before Tom Corbett enters office, who knows how future impacts we could see when dealing with the state's budget crisis

Jayayess1190, any impact on your transportation with that action in place?

Oh my gosh @ some of these cuts! Does the P7 usually use the Metroliners? That overcrowding is serious....

I cried out at the elimination of the Brown Line as well as the G2 (which I actually took to my hotel last summer). These aren't to be taken lightly...

Yes the state failed in its application to toll I-80 but it never even got that much support anyway. PA was trying to toll the highway and use excess revenue for transit, but that's actually illegal. This is frustrating...services must be eliminated and cut back because of this.

I hope they give ample notice to those that are affected by the route eliminations. Maybe I need to run back to Pittsburgh next month if I want to ride the Allentown Line and see some of the services that are slated to be reduced and/or discontinued. At least they are staying that these cuts are "temporary" but I know better than that.

Well, the G2 is a quick ride between downtown and Oakland, faster and less crowded than the 61/71's so it sucks they are cutting service on it. And the 61/71's are getting service cuts so that means less buses through Oakland which is bad.

And as for the Brown Line, I bet daily ridership on it is under 50 people, not including people who might ride between the free downtown stops.

Are there even that many people that take the G2 from the West Busway to Oakland? Maybe it would be better for a branch of the 61 or 71 to run via the East Busway as an express. The G2 I rode was empty, but of course this was right before rush hour anyway.

Do many people ride the EBO?

Yes, plenty of people ride the P3 (which is what the EBO is now called). It does get packed when headed from Oakland to Swissvale.

The G2 is also used especially in rush hours. PAT had to change the G2 due to complaints. When the 100 and 33X became the G1/G2 the G1 originally was downtown-Carngie and the G2 was Oakland-downtown-Robinson. But then PAT had to change it due to people who lived in Carnegie and worked in Oakland complaining about how they now had a 2 seat ride to get to/from Oakland, and that buses were more crowded. But yeah during non rush hour times during the day the G2 has a light load from Oakland to downtown mainly from people riding 61/71's instead.

Is a lot of this ridership school based ridership with professors and students? That may be one of PATs problems, and they may want to look into that. LOL, it also didn't help that the G2 I was on was actually going from downtown to Oakland...I'm guessing there's more of a reverse commuter-ship on that line.

Also the G2 when it originally started used to loop through Oakland and run downtown on the East Busway, now it goes down Blvd of the Allies instead (thanks to traffic on Forbes Ave making trips longer).

Wait, did they change this route since August? I definitely remember riding up the East Busway, although we were on detour for a little bit since it was under construction.

Edit: Wait, I understand it goes on the East Busway in one direction and back to town on the Blvd of Allies heading back into town. I used to cross that Blvd when I would get off the Greyhound bus on my trips out there back in the day when they went to the temporary terminal.
