I believe the G2 got re-changed with the September TDP changes. It orginally came from the W. Busway and downtown on the East Busway, went through Oakland on 5th, looped onto Forbes, then back onto 5th were it turned onto Neville St and took that back onto the East busway, into downtown and then back out onto the W. Busway. That was also the time when they had the 28X picking up and dropping off people on the West Busway, to try and help alleviate overcrowding.

By the way, the Oakland Map is great: http://www.portauthority.org/PAAC/portals/1/pdfs/2010Way2GoOak.pdf

I wish that Port Authority would create a system wide map, or at least more maps like this for different areas. The availability of such a map could help to attract riders to certain services that are currently underutilized.

Ah ha, that explains it! I was wondering how I could've missed that the G1 went to Robinson (I could've ridden a Metroliner then!) after I looked at a schedule when I came home. Too bad all of this will change and they will completely eliminate the G1.

Looks like they believe using transit buses with suburban style seats has a beter price on it for its short distance suburban service instead of using very expansive motorcoaches.

PAT tried out two orders of MCI/TMC MC-9's in the 1980's (this was at a time when some of their suburban runs ran further out than they do nowadays). From what I recall, the MC-9's didn't do all that well with the Port Authority.

Ah that's interesting. I did find it rather bizarre that outside of rush hours, PAT would use regular transit buses on the same routes they would run their Metroliners and Suburban artics! I guess suburban styled Gillig LFs would be good (albeit boring) for Port Authority Transit.

It would also be great if they order NABI 416 fitted with suburban interior to best suited their commuter operation which is cheaper than using motorcoach.

The service changes take effect March 27 unfortunately. The service may still be good, but if you are trying to catch some runs on the services that will be cut, you better make your trip sooner.

I'm dabbling with the idea of an emergency trip out to Pittsburgh. I'll never forgive myself for missing the Allentown trains the last time I was there if I don't get to ride and photograph one or two.
