So I had a meeting with PAT yesterday, got to ask some questions and here is what I found out:

  • The New Flyer's will be LFR's, there is an option for around 150 and they will not replace any of the current Neo artic's. They will run on routes like the 61/71's, aka high traffic routes that you can already find the Neo artics on. Also they will have EPA 2010 ISL's and skylights.

  • The new Gillig's arriving in the summer will be the same old box, PAT didn't want to pay the extra for the BRT style.

  • The Phantom's have DD50 0ver Cummins due to the fact that PAT had a better relationship with DD.

  • PAT doesn't buy a lot of hybrids due to the higher costs.

  • Turning the 61ABCD/71ACD/500 into Rapid Routes is not happening yet, the scheduling is in place with those current routes, but everything else isn't (stations, traffic priority, bus lanes, ect).

  • The Free Fare Zone and "pay when you exit" is being looked at, things with PAT are different now and this system obviously needs some tweaks.

  • PAT doesn't have a lot of space downtown, and Penn Station is out of the way for many routes, so they make loops instead.

  • Lightrail to Oakland. LOL.

I got a question regarding Mt Washington. I did see the view of downtown Pittsburgh from Mt Washington and I am wondering. Is there a particular exit to use when getting off the Penn Lincoln Highway to get to Mt Washington or could I catch the T to get to either Mt Washington or the Duquesne Incline?

The T will take you to the Monongahela incline, the Duquesne is only accessible by bus. And as for driving, exiting the Penn Lincoln Parkway at the exit before/right after the Fort Pitt tunnel can take you into Mt. Washington. Exit 69B/C, take Saw Mill Run Blvd to Woodruff St and then that takes you into Mt. Washington (look it up on Google/Bing Maps).

This is great news! I hope the service works out for Lezner, though. Were the Metroliners used on these routes?

I wouldn't be shocked if the ATU raises hell with regards to this proposal.

I cant wait until I get to Pittsburgh. My goal is to leave my house at 20 minutes before 6am that Friday. Stop and grab a cup of coffee. Then hit the Road. And stop only when I need to use the restroom or another cup of coffee and hope to be there before Lunch time. The estimated map time is 4 hours and 12 minutes from my house to my hotel. But Im sure Im gonna have to pit stop along the turnpike at least 2 times. Maybe more. I am intending on stopping at the amtrak station when I arrive. And walk through as much of downtown as possible. Maybe even Parkway Town center and definetely the Mall at Robinson.
