I may consider 2 trips to the Southside works. Maybe one on Friday when I arrive and as far as I know Saturday is when I am on my own for dinner and that day will be when I go to the Cheesecake Factory and thats the location I intend to go to. Sunday. Depending on whether or not I covered everything I wish to do will depend on when I depart from Pittsburgh. I may just hit the road first thing in the morning or I may hang around downtown Pittsburgh for a while before heading back home. But that all depends on what all I would still like to do and what the weather is like. |

So from looking at the weather forcast the weather should be beautiful in Pittsburgh this weekend. They are calling for am rain Friday but Ill probably be still in route during that time. Saturday the weather will be good. And Sunday they are calling for a chance of Thunder storms. So it looks like good weather for dining out both nights. And for what I plan to wear for dinner. Im leaning towards light blue jeans with a collared shirt and a sport coat. I know the sport coat isnt 100% necessary but I just love wearing it. |

I just got back from Pittsburgh and over all. It is a good city. However I did encounter heavy traffic as well as many not paying attention to where they were walking or driving and I cant remember how many times I had to stomp the brakes over jay walkers. But over all I had a good time. I walked around downtown for 5 1/2 yesterday. Rode the T to Station Square and the Monogahela Incline up to Mt Washington and back down. I havent rode the Duquesne Incline. But I did also ride 2 Gillig Advantages. 5362 and one of the 5400s. I forget which one it was. And I did notice I didnt have to pay to ride the bus inside downtown. Which is good. Something SEPTA nor Baltimore MTA offers. |

Glad you enjoyed your visit to the Steel City! I have driven out there & agree that downtown Pittsburgh traffic can be a real challenge. The "Free Fare Zone" works well for PAT in downtown Pittsburgh mainly because their route structure is set up so that most bus & all light rail routes loop through downtown. You pay as you enter going to downtown, & pay as you leave the vehicle headed outbound. It would be much harder to set up a similar system here on SEPTA. One thing you may have noticed on the T (especially at Station Square) is the off-trolley, on-platform fare booth used at some stops away from downtown-& then only some times. Since there are no physicial barriers at them, I always wonder how many riders try to just walk past them without paying. Whenever you do return out that way, if you have a few hours to spare, I highly recommend a ride up to New Castle & back on New Castle Area Transit's route between that city to downtown Pittsburgh. You will get a new appreciation for how fast a Gillig can go! It is about as close as an old-time interurban bus route as you will find in Pennsylvania, with small-town street running, open highway travel along the other US 422, US 19, & I-79, combined with big-city traffic entering Pittsburgh. It even serves Rivers Casino just like you would see a typical Atlantic City casino bus do, complete with free slot play incentives! Edited by MichaelBug, May 2 2011, 07:26 AM.

I missed out on riding the Articulated buses while I was in Pittsburgh. Most of them I saw were on the Busways. How many stops do the busways make inside of downtown and do you have to pay on them if you ride within downtown? |

The Neo artics are on plenty more routes besides the P1 and P2 busway routes. You could have found both 3000 (DD50) and 3100 (DD60) on the routes through Oakland (61ABCD/71ACD) or some of the "Flyer" routes during rush hour. But the P1 and P2 make 4 stops in downtown, here is the schedule. Also PAT and other agencies had some problems when their Pennliners were first delivered. Did Septa? Article Here |

How come PAT decided to get the 2 rear door model instead of the 1 rear door model? I think 1 rear door would have been better since it gives more available seating. |
