Ive noticed that issue at times even on Baltimore's Neoplans. I think the way Neoplan manufactured that portion above the headsign was a mistake. I think NABI does this and I know New Flyer has the interior front headsign cover bolted from the top instead of the bottom and I never recall seeing that on Baltimore's New Flyers.

I dont think that is a rip. It might be the interior cover to the headsign isnt closed all the way or something. Ive seen that here in Baltimore numerous times and Im sure its happened on the SEPTA as well. I should have rode one of the Neos when I was in Pittsburgh.
I agree with NABI on that-the interior headsign cover on the Neoplan just isn't latched. That seems to be an issue with Neoplans everywhere. You are actually looking outside, but from the inside surface of the glass that covers the destination sign!

That panel opens so that both the sign itself and any light tubes that may be inside can be serviced.
Virtually every NABI at NJT has this condition. Sometimes I think the bus will hit a bump and the thing will fall back into the bus [and the NJT NABIs are HORRIBLE on bumpy roads!].

Question on Mid-Mon Transit:

I saw a photo of a New Flyer D30LF with a full wrap for California University (CalU) on a university file for a parking lot shuttle. Did MMVTA purchase New Flyers second-hand from someone recently? I thought most of their buses were Gilligs.
I have no idea, I will try to find out about that.
Actually found out for myself yesterday on my trip to the Cal U campus:

GG&C Bus out of Washington City, Pa. operates the Vulcan Flyer bus service for Cal U. I had thought this might have been the MMVTA's "Valley 3" bus, but I'm not positive. Anyway, I saw three second hand Gillig Phantoms with wide rear doors (601-603), three newer generation Blue Bird transits (604-606) and the aforementioned D30LF (611). There are supposed to be 11 buses in the fleet, but I didn't see any buses between 607-610 (not that they don't exist; they probably weren't running).

Train tests to begin soon on N. Shore Connector

Quote:

The Port Authority's North Shore Connector project is 98 percent complete and on track for the debut of passenger service on March 25.

Project manager Keith Wargo told a committee of the authority board Wednesday that testing of trains on the new system will begin next month. Workers have been running tests with cutouts that match the profile of Light Rail Transit vehicles to ensure that proper clearances exist on the 1.2-mile extension, which includes a new Gateway Center station, an underground station next to PNC Park and an elevated station beside Heinz Field.

Trucks also have towed pantagraphs, the arm-like devices that connect rail vehicles with the overhead power lines, through the system.

The Gateway station is 93 percent complete and the Romare Bearden mural from the old station has been refurbished and reinstalled. The two stations on the North Shore are more than 99 percent complete, Mr. Wargo said.

Port Authority braces for another slash to service

Quote:

The authority faces a projected $64 million deficit in the budget for July 2012 to June 2013, caused by runaway health care and pension costs, rising fuel prices and insufficient revenues, including state and county aid that has mostly remained stagnant or decreased.

It is limping through the current fiscal year by using the last $11 million of a $45 million emergency infusion provided last year by outgoing Gov. Ed Rendell and $29 million of its roughly $39 million in reserve funds.

If there is no action in Harrisburg, the authority will release details of planned cuts in January and begin a mandatory public comment period before the reductions are implemented in the fall.

Mr. Bland said the cuts would include elimination of 30 to 40 of the remaining 98 bus routes; layoffs of 500 to 600 of the agency's 2,500 remaining employees; and closure of one or two more bus divisions.

Can't Harrisburg get its hand together and get going? They need to work not all in talking which is stalling the process. If they don't work together, riders there are going suffer from the doomsday service cut from the transit there.

It's all in Governor Corbett's hands...

However, I'm willing to bet that PAT isn't going to get any funding unless they make some SERIOUS changes to the way they operate.
