So until 2011 the Gateway Center T Station is closed for the construction of a new station and the tunnels for the line to the North Shore. Also, they are throwing around ideas of a new commuter rail line using diesels like th River Line.

Here at Pitt we got new new id's:

Here is a change coming to the Port Authority, and I've already ridden a Gillig with the new fare boxes and had a driver ask when I showed my old id when I was getting the new one:

Updated ID cards for Pitt faculty, staff and students not only have a new look, but also contain a chip that will work as a bus pass when implementation of smart card technology on Port Authority vehicles is completed. That system is expected to be in place in late 2010, according to Port Authority spokesperson Judy McNeil.

Horrible photo, and I just got a haircut today! Also, apparently we will have to start swiping the card instead of just showing it to the driver like we do now. Post-Gazette Article on the technology.
This article says it could possibly extend to regional transit agencies like Mid Mon Valley Transit that operates the RTS's, New Castle with its suburban Phantom's, and Westmoreland Transit that operates MCI's

So what is taking Septa so long?

And one last thing. Wow. Look at this, where is Septa's long page on their history (not just a couple sentiences)?

Today I got in 3 more Nova Classics on 3 separate routes before they are all gone. Also got a decent recording of the DD50 engine with little AC noise. And my camera's screen is broken. It was raining today, so some water must have gotten into it and it displays a mix mash of colors, though it is the only thing broken on the camera (I was actually able to record despite the screen being messed up).

Oh no! Do you have a separate viewfinder from the LCD screen?

No I don't. :( I am going to look for a camera shop tomorrow and see if I can get it repaired. I also contacted Panasonic, and they just got back to me saying send it in and they will send me a refurbished model. In the meantime all I have is my TZ3 which has similar image quality to the new ZS3, but it does not do HD video. So if I can't get it fixed, then when I am back in Philly next week, I won't be able to do any HD video (unless I take my parents camera).

Also, tonight, I saw a blue New Flyer Excelsior in downtown Pittsburgh! :o

Blurry photo, this is why I want a DSLR or something better:

And there is a former PAT Nova roaming downtown Philly for one of those apartment complexes....I forget which one. It is still in the PAT red, black, and white, and the destination sign is stuck on HARMAR GARAGE....

So today I went out on the South Busway and visited Pittsburgh's ghetto rundown mall know as Century 3. I only went in JC Penny, but the mall is 30% empty. I have bus and lrv video from the Busway, and downtown. I also have a video from my ride on a Neoplan An440lf, its a good video because the AC was off and you can actually hear the DD S50 without the loud gruff noise heard in my other videos. The bus goes on the South Busway and then heads into the tunnel shared with the light rail.

I also have some photos to be uploaded to the gallery.
Wow, Century III is only 30% empty? That is actually an improvement. I would have placed the mall at 50% occupancy when I was there back in March, and it wasn't much better at the beginning of July....

It's a shame what happened to that mall....it was a rocking place when I was a regular in Allegheny County between 1989 and 1994 during my college years....and even on repeat visits between 94 and 04. I got to know and ride the PAT system completely several times over during that time. The bus fleet changed almost twice in that time. From AM Generals, RTS's, Neoplans, MAN artics, MAN artics built by AM General....then onto the Orion V's....and Flxibles....then the Novas. TMC-built MC-9A's, MCI MC-9's to Neoplan cruisers.....Many route changes....the strike of 1992....the giant service cuts of 1993....

ahhhh memories and lots of non-digital VHS video since 1997....lol
