I dont know if its necessarily the case but I suspect the fire on 8046 was due to a rear brake defect since rear brake fires cause more damage to the coach then a typical engine fire. 5221 and 5279 were salvagable after they caught fire. And 7165 is still on the fleet Roster after an engine fire.

From reading this article. Police and fire crews were aware of a vehicle fire but they find out after the first police officer arrives to the fire scene that the vehicle was a SEPTA bus and dispatched emergency crews that the vehicle fire was a local bus. And after all issues of getting to the fire hydrant which was blocked by a fence which was for a construction zone. Fire crews had to destroy the fence to get to the hydrant. And by the time they could completely extinguish the fire 8046 was burnt to a point it had to be deleted off the Roster.

The first thing that went wrong was the fire was OUTSIDE the city limits. When Tinicum Police informed SEPTA, the dispatchers first instinct is to call the PHILADELPHIA Fire Department. When someone realized that its just outside their jurisdiction, SEPTA called Delco Fire and they sent someone out. By that time, Boeing had sent its Fire Brigade out and started working before Tinicum got there.

So the Philadelphia Citys fire department is better at responding the townships outside the city of Philadelphia? Its the opposite for Baltimore. Baltimore Citys fire department is slow at responding then Anne Arundel County and Baltimore Countys fire departments. And in Baltimore. I would definetely rather a bus catch fire in the county then in the city. Plus I thought there was some type of emergency fire button to push in the event that the bus is on fire. Because in Baltimore when 0028 caught fire at York Rd and Fairmount Ave the driver was at the payphone across the street and while she was still there sirens were heard from a half a mile away where the fire station closest to 0028 was located and they were infact called out to 0028.

Even the fire crew at the Boening factory righy bt the location of the fire were dispatched to the SEPTA fire and used a truck commonly used for extinguishing airplane fires to help extinguish the fire with 8046.

Heres a picture on Flickr that I found when researching SEPTA 8046. And this was before the fire.

Ok Nabi... whatever, here's the deal. The fire was not in Tinicum Twp. it was in Ridley Twp. That is why Vauclain Fire Co. was on the initial dispatch. Boeing Fire Department was called in to assist with it's foam truck to get a quicker knock on the fire. Tinicum Twp. FD was also called in to assist for manpower reasons.

The police in Ridley and Tinicum share a radio sector and when the call came into 911, there were many conflicting locations for the incident. Tinicum PD found the bus first and relayed the information to the DELCO 911 Center. The police do not contact SEPTA. If SEPTA called Phila., then their dispatchers got it wrong.

Also, as an FEOE on everything, you should be made aware that Phila.'s FD does not respond into the Suburbs, as the Subruban companies do not respond into the City.

Should you like any further information, please feel free to PM me.
