How come SEPTA doesn't have the NFI logo on the fronts of the D40LF's, and DE40LFs, or the GMC logo on the fronts of the RTS, or the NEOPLAN signs on the fronts of the AN440s and AN460s or so on... doesn't it cost extra to "take off the copyright?" other TA's keep it on, why not SEPTA? They didn't even keep it on the backs either... in fact, up untill i looked at the MSN groups, i used to think that SEPTA built their own buses....

You are not the only one who thought that. If you looked carefully some of the manufactuers symbols fall in the same place the livery trim is supposed to be added. It would be easier if ''NEOPLAN'' [which is dented in the front] was painted over instead of appying the trim over it. So in better words it interferes.

remember the AMGs? I used to think that the D40LFs were just AMGs, i found out some years ago that AMG (aka Hummer) used to build buses like that, which is what made me look further into bus names... which is how i found PTV MSN groups, and then this PTV, hehe

It's been SEPTA's policy for years not to have a manufacturer's nameplate on the outside of any of their buses. I'm not sure why, but I believe that this goes back to an old City of Philadelphia policy back in the PTC era (1940-1968).

Each transit agency writes in their bidding proposal whether to remove nameplates or not from their bus purchases. (New York's NYC Transit buses for the most part also don't have them now.) I recall that SEPTA's GM fishbowls actually had a metal SEPTA "meatball" logo covering the GMC name in the front of the bus.

For whatever reason, all of SEPTA's AN440 Neoplans did have the "NEOPLAN" name in the rear of the interior, & the Volvo artics did have the "VOLVO" name in the same place. Also, SEPTA never removed the Volvo name & sweepspear emblem from bus 8590 (the 40-footer, which was NOT a new bus when SEPTA acquired it) until very recently (when 8590 was sent back to SEPTA from the Hershey bus museum).

I recall that many of the 1983 Neoplan Pennliners that ran elsewhere in PA (Johnstown, State College, & Westmoreland County come to mind) had no less than four "NEOPLAN" emblems (front & rear, on both the outside and the inside). The front interior emblem was mounted below the "Stop Requested" sign, & the rear exterior emblem down near the stoplights on the right.

I remember the fishbowls having the GMC under the Septa logo, also.

The Flx's had the badge on the rear.

The Kawasaki trolleys have a badge with the year just to the left of the frt doors.

With SEPTA's Neoplans, the 8285-8875 group had "Neoplan" mounted on the back of the bus. 3000-3491 did not.

All of SEPTA's Neoplan 40 footers had "Neoplan" at the bottom of the bus by the farebox.

Neoplan Artics also have them on the back mud flaps.

I've notice that the NFI logo is on the steering wheel.
