Cool. Wonder if Septa would also buy the 60ft version to replace the Neoplans?
Possibly, but I'm betting that they would purchase few of them or so since they're likely to buy DE60LF since they're likely to place an order for DE60LF next year for delivery in 2011 to begin replacing Neoplan AN-460 which is the last series of the Neoplan bus still in service. Then about a few years later if necessary for service increase due to high passenger demand, SEPTA could consider the new XDE60LF (About the same time which could be introduced) for service increase.

There is only the 40 or 41 foot model. There might be a 60 foot one when it is the neoplan time to retire

I know, its going be at least three or four years from now before the XDE60LF and XD60LF is going be introduced. For now, there's XDE40LF and XD40LF now. I'm guessing that SEPTA could considered the hybrid version of the Excelsior. It's going to sound different than the current DE40LF (both first and second generation) after a seeing a test video from Vancouver of the XDE40LF.

It's about time! Are you sure they're coming in that soon? Septa105R5 may be right. Plus it seems a little too cool/weird to be true if they come in next year. But we need diversity BAAAD!!

We shall see, but let's keep in mind that SEPTA is only in the early stages of replacing the Snakes. I would anticipate the earliest that the contract would be put out for a formal bid would be late 2010 or early 2011. There's no guarantee that a 60 ft version of the Excelsior would be available for production by then, but we shall see.

Plus, there's no guarantee that the Neos will be retired in 2011-2012 at exactly the 12 year mark.

Cool please do. Here are the specs for the Xcelsior: http://www.newflyer.com/index/cms-filesystem-action?file=7304_nfi_primo_brochure%20final.pdf

It is available as a hybrid, and offers a higher seating capacity (likely with less leg room) than the current fleet. This higher capacity is necessary for our heavy hitter routes...after all, since the NABIs will be leaving us, we won't have any "high capacity" 40 foot buses.

I hope this ends up being reality rather than the hope of the general manager.

Heh...Southern.

I must give a chuckle because with the New Flyers, Southern got all of the good stuff (8000s, the 5600s when new, 5500s when new, 5400s when new, all of the 2002-2004 hybrids), and it would follow tradition if they get the X series.

I hope not. They have enough of getting the good stuff first let another depot get the new stuff first. Midvale, Comly or Frankford should get it.

Enough NABI's should be miled up for retire at Comly by then. At least 10 of them.
