They're likely going for standard New Flyer Artic since the Xcelsior 60ft is not availiable now, but possibly in few years. SEPTA is likely to order a batch of DE60LF to either replace most or all of Neoplan AN-460. If some of them are to remain for more schedule runs, then part of older Neoplans will be replace while some of them will be retained and kept in service for few more years. Then about the same time that is few years later, they could possibly be replace with XDE60LF just in time at that launch for the replacement or by order more DE60LF(R) |

I would think that the artics from New Flyer - presuming that New Flyer is awarded the contract to replace the Neos - would be the DE60LFR. I highly doubt that the old style will still be available by the time the Neos are retired. Even the MBTA, which has several 2006 and 2007 D40LFs - which IIRC was around the time the restyled New Flyers were being introduced - is going for the DE60LFR for it's artic order. |

Interesting note about the MBTA New Flyers. The order actually goes all the way up to 2009. Strange, though, that they are getting more artics. I'm guessing these are solely for expansion purposes? I would think that if New Flyer is supplier of the Big Neo replacements, it would be the DE60LFR (SEPTA plans to only purchase hybrid buses from now on). Unless the Xcelsior (correct spelling) is offered in articulated form and we already have a batch of them. Anyway, hopefully things will work out so that we'll see some Xcelsiors rather than just more of the same old slowbrids. |

I'm guessing that the little Eldorados and the Champs will probably replaced with New Flyer DE35LF or only the Eldorados will probaly replace with DE35LF? Also about the Xcelsior model, I saw a video of the testing of the hybrid version in which it sounds different than SEPTA's both 1st and 2nd generation on youtube. IMO i rather have D40LFs, and DE41LFs because I like to keep the Fleet the same. To me it shows "no matter how much you rather have the nicer and new fleet", "you stick with the old, trusty, and reliable fleet" |

Sounds like it's a one-for-one replacement to retire some of the RTS buses: On July 3, 2009, the MBTA Board of Directors approved a $26 million contract with New Flyer for 25 DE60LFR diesel hybrid articulated buses. These buses are expected to be delivered in summer 2010, and will be assigned to Southampton Garage. This will allow Southampton Garage to take over operation of a high-frequency route from Cabot garage. This in turn will allow for 25 New Flyer D40LF buses at Cabot to be transferred back to Charlestown and Lynn, and will allow for up to 25 RTS buses to be retired. The remaining Midwest overhauled RTS buses are expected to remain in service to at least 2012. Federal stimulus money is being used to fund this order. The buses are an option to an order originally placed by Albuquerque NM. Source: http://mysite.verizon.net/rtspcc/MBTAroster.html Southampton Garage operates most of the Silver Line BRT service and the 39 bus (which, for all intents and purposes, replaced a portion of the Green Line/E Branch to Arborway); most of the buses there are Neo CNG and dual mode artics with a few New Flyer C40LFs. |

I think it was posted elsewhere that SEPTA was planning to replace the ElDorados with 40-ft buses; I wouldn't even try to guess what SEPTA will do as far as the contract routes that still use the Chumps (Krap(f)s may have to buy some more buses on its own for their respective contract routes - don't know what would be used for the 312/Cornwells Heights shuttle). |
