Ive noticed on whichever Eldorado was at the 2009 SEPTA Roadeo as well as on 5463 that they have the restyled vent covers for the roof vents in the rear. My guess is the reason they were replaced may have something to do with a time the AC crapped out and the roof vent was opened with the red handle turned. Either the latch on the vent cap wore out. Or the vent cap slid off of the roof after being opened with the red knob turned. So I wonder if thats a consequence for having windows that dont open.

To translate: The hatches on the roofs are of the current design found on our hybrids.

I dunno why that is is the case with the buses you mentioned. Guess they were just upgraded for some reason. The old ones had a tab that could be pushed to fully open the hatch (although it was still attached!).

This link above shows what the escape hatch lid looks like on buses from 05 and older as well as some 06 models. The link below shows the current design of the hatch cover. Ive noticed SEPTA has the same type on the rear as shown below on some of their older buses. Like 5463. So its possible the cover had to be replaced on the rear hatch.

This would be a good hatch cover for SEPTA to use on their buses. Since the windows do not open. It would be a good feature to have to vent out humid air in the event the AC does not work. If its an effective feature.

One thing I noticed with 5447s rear escape hatch. The black pole where its connected to the frame was broken. To my knowledge those can possibly be replaced. As well as the piece it goes through. And it wouldnt really surprise me if SEPTA replaced the entire hatch lid over one broken part. Plus 7178 and 5428 I know have a new rear escape hatch lid.
