Up in Erie covering a basketball game at Gannon University tonight. Will probably post more later, but I can tell you that the Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority (EMTA) has a new addition to their fleet. In addition to Gillig Advantages, they now have Orion VII Next Generation low floors. |

It is for the 1st in the state. No one in the state had them before, so they take the record having having the 1st kind of those buses. |

Wow thanks for the clip. I've been looking at this person's videos and WOW it seems that Erie has a somewhat diverse and interesting fleet! Love how they have 3 or 4 schemes, heh. Now, what especially intrigues me is how they are running BARTA's old Orion V CNGs. I was wondering what happened to them! Plus, look at the amount of buses on school bus duty. They even put Amtran to shame! |

That's perhaps one of the new interesting bus that some transit has place in service in 2010 which is something other than a Gillig or New Flyer as most of PA has either one of those kind of buses in the fleet today. Erie MTA is the example of placing this interesting bus in revenue service Krapf Bus Company is another example in which it got the record of being the 1st state to use it in Route A passenger service as well as ParkTowne Philly Shuttle. |

The majority of the fleet that I saw were Gillig Advantage diesels. 0500, 0900, and 1000 series buses. The New Flyers, including the 1997, 1998, 2000 CNG, and 2001 models are still in service, but most of them are assigned to either school trippers (hence the lights and stop sign arm) or "county" routes (such as the Edinboro-Millcreek Mall run). When I saw the O-VII NGs, I had to do a double take, especially after I saw an Advantage numbered in the 1000s (forgot which number). The Gilligs and Orions have a Cummins ISL/Allison powertrain. However, EMTA has at least six Gillig low floor "fake trolleys" that they run on the #20 Bayliner route. Those Gilligs (#1-6) have a Cummins/Voith powertrain similar to the Gillig BRTs at Red Rose in Lancaster. Another interesting thing: the bike racks on all buses except for the Gillig "trolleys" are removed during the winter. If you don't mind the long trip, Erie is a fascinating city to bus fan during the week. |

Oh man, I was hoping to see some of the RTSs and Orion Vs still running about. Another Gillig/New Flyer city for the most part. I do wonder what happened with their CNG program. I'm surprised they aren't getting new CNG buses with all of the tax credits available now. |

Not sure why, but I'd guess it was a cost issue. I don't recall Erie having that many CNGs to begin with. |

I didn't recall Erie having Phantoms. I thought the last HF bus they had were Orion Is. |

I'm not sure why I screamed Gillig Phantoms, lol. IIRC, they had the RTSs and Orion Vs that appear to be from BARTA, right? |
