I & fellow PTVer RedArrowDoug will be visiting New England from Thursday, October 6th through Sunday, October 9th. We'll be staying in the Manchester, NH area for the weekend, & taking day trips to Boston (via Boston Express bus from Manchester) on Friday 10/7 & to Seashore Trolley Museum for their Transit Day on Saturday 10/8. (Southwest Airlines had a terrific sale on flights to MHT that weekend!)

We plan to spend Friday touring the MBTA. There is so much transit variety in Boston! We can't possibly cover it all in one day-but we sure would like to try!

Also, I know that the remaining RTSes on the T only operate weekdays. Any suggestions for finding & riding them? Looking for any suggestions-thanks in advance!

First, download the Boston Bus Maps Android App for your phones. It works in a similar fashion to Transit View, where it will give you the EXACT fleet number of the bus running. Anything from 1 to 0400 is an RTS. Here's a fleet Roster: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MBTA_Bus

For RTSs (which mainly run during rush hours only), Harvard would be a great place to see them. The 77 runs them as well.

Might as well go for some Neoplan AN440LFs as well on the CT routes. Additionally, maybe you could grab a final ride on the Logan Airport AN440s - I believe they are due to be retired soon.

Don't forget to go to Ashmont and get a ride on the original PCC's on the Ashmont-Mattapan trolley line. Thgose old 3200's are a living museum of trolleydom.

Then hop back on the Red Line to Harvard to ride the trackless trolleys. The best rides are on either the 71 or 73 lines but if you don't have the time, take the 72 where it runs to the spot where the 72 loops at the 71/73 split on Mt. Auburn Ave.

A great Green Line run is to take the C [Beacon St] to the end of the line at Cleveland Circle, walk up 1 block to the Reservior Station on the D [Riverside], and ride back on the troley back into the city. Make sure you get off at Boylston and take a picture of the two old trolleys on display at the station.

Whoa I had no idea the termini of those two lines were so close together! I should've done that last time!

Well, I shall keep it in mind for next time, although I'm wondering if I will attempt that whole "one day trip" again, hehe.
