Same service with a new name Nassau Inter County Express Service. Para transit service will also be retained too. I bet riders can't wait to see how their new operator Veolia Transportation will run the service after years of costly inefficiency operation by MTA. MTA really needs to deal with it management. Check out the new look on NICE service. Those buses looks colorful. http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/CountyExecutive/NewsRelease/2010/11-10-2011.htm I'm betting that all Orion VII NG CNG, Orion V CNG and the paratransit cutaway owned by the county will be repainted in those paint scheme. Mangano was just mad that the MTA demanded that Nassau County pay its full share of the service instead of the MTA paying for most of their portion for however many years. That being said, I think it's nice to see a fresh face in the New York Metropolitan area. This should have happened with MTA Bus as well. |

Now this shows why MTA has a poor management in operation including its own operating costs. |

Does it really? From what I understand, it's not that the cost of the MTA running the service miraculously went up $26 million, but that it was no longer able to cover Nassau County's portion of the subsidy to operate the service. So, MTA asked Nassau County to uphold its agreement. It is good to see that Veolia has found a number of cost savings already, but we'll see what they are able to do with only chump change from the county (and the state subsidy). |
