April 1973 (I seem to recall it was April 8 but can't verify it) was a major event in the C's history. On that day the subway extension opened and the C changed radically on the south end - Navy Yard and Naval Hospital services were cut except for peak hours and the Broad-Snyder shuttles to each ended (no longer needed). The C went only south to Geary in off-peak service and 17 took over as the route to serve the Yard and Hospital. The shuttle services between the stadiums and Snyder also ended.

Sheaff Lane service remained as the only regular service south of Pattison when all was said and done.

Also, I recall that most service was provided with 3700-series GM 5105's out of Luzerne for many years, supplemented by the lower-numbered 5000's when they arrived. For some reason, Luzerne's 500's usually spelled the 3700's on Sundays. Southern's 700's were the usual equipment found on the Snyder shorts.

The lower-numbered 5000's [non AC TDH5303's] ran on the C until they were dumped in 1980-81. The 3700's were replaced with Flxibles in 1973 and 1975. Luzerne had several batches of Flxibles during that era, 6000's, 6200's were rarely seen on the C but the high 6400's were the kings of the line, shared with the 5000's. In the 70's Southern began to contribute more buses to the C as well, with their 6500's running the line too. A few soft-seated 6300's showed up on the C too, especially in the late 70's as SEPTA's poor maintenance of the buses caught up with them, and then you could see almost any equipment that runs on the route.

In 1981, the C received rebuilt Fishbowls and they ran the line until 1986-87 when the DK Neoplans [3000's] took over, supplanted by the EI Neos [3272-3320]. The Neo EI's became the base buses on the C because of their wheelchair lifts.

In the late 80's or early 90's [before the move to Midvale], somehow Luzerne got its hands on about two dozen RTS 40 footers [8200's]. They weren't there long, but on a few rare occasions one or two managed to do runs on the C. I remember seeing 8264 on one C bus run but since it was back in the day without portable digital cameras or Cell-phone cameras, no picture of that unusual sight was never recorded for posterity.

Oh shoot I forgot to post that, yea the 4 and 16 signs are pretty much up now, also the buses (as earlier posted in the photo thread) has been updated inside and outside.

Also, bus AVA systems on the buses have already gotten the announcements updated to announce 4 and 16 (and there's already a programming glitch that causes route 6 to announce the 4 at Broad & Olney)

We do have a photo of an RTS working the C n the Gallery here on PTV. 8249 on a Naval Base trip. Apologies for no direct link but posting from my smartphone is tricky to start with!

I do recall seeing a Beetlebomb on the C & taking a picture of it, but I'm not sure if the picture of 8249 is the same or not.

Iite well I guess I procrastinated but that don't mean I am not going to keep my word.
Tomorrow I'm going to Cheltenham & Ogontz to get some footage of the C there and if time permits 11th & Nedro.

Wednesday I'm going to City Hall & Broad & Geary.

I'm not going to record at each area of major intersection along the C due to some neighborhoods. So I'm going to do what I can in my power and the sources I possess.
