Wow, Now I see why the 77 is such a busy line, it's the only East-West crosstown service connecting the heart of NE Philly to Abington, Jenkintown, Glenside, and with a connection from the H and the 18, the way to get from E. Mt. Airy to the main part of NE Philly without going through the clusterf&*ks of Olney and Frankford Terminals, also it does a good job of picking up the 70's leftovers. Instead of starting [if ever] the 72, any money that route will waste should go to improving the 77. Extend the service hours to 10:30 pm, shorten the headway to 30 minutes [beleive me that vacum will be filled very quickly], and extend it to the FTC [make Cedarbrook Mall a short-turn point if SEPTA doesn't want to make all of the buses go to Chestnut Hill.], that will make the 77 a really important Crosstown line. |

The 72 would be important too because it would save people who live on Cheltenham Avenue between 2nd and Broad Streets from catching 3 buses if they want to go to places such as Cheltenham, Cedarbrook, or Willow Grove Malls. |

Having utilized this route multiple times I can tell you that more service is not necessarily needed. Maybe a school tripper in both directions at most...McDevitt students really do fill it up quickly. Other than that, though, the bus usually runs empty until it gets to Cottman -- already serviced by the much more reliable 70. Some thoughts, though--- -run certain 70 buses to the hospital complex on Township Line to make up for infrequency of the 77. -extend the 77 express to FTC from Cottman & Blvd and watch the ridership go up - the biggest folly of the 70 is its outdated eastern terminus. -keep all 77's terminating at Chestnut Hill. Even with an extension on the eastern portion of the route there is still a huge layover time in CH |

Look like the 77 detour will run longer than we thought. The Greenwood Bridge project hit a snag. http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2012/07/31/montco-bridge-rehab-goes-on-hiatus-while-workers-wait-for-new-parts/ |

I don't think this will result in a major delay to the project. These kinds of things happen frequently on construction projects and time is usually built into the schedule to account for them. |
