I rarely see zone fares enforced on the 110 or 111. The only route I see the zone fare collected regularly is the 123. That's because if you get off in King of Prussia obviously you boarded the bus before it gets on the Blue Route and Schukyll. The drivers collect it from everyone even the Transpass holders who try to sneak by.
Thanks, good information.

My senior pass is now good all day, even though it has the old time constraints on it. Septa hasn't issued new ones.
When I used to ride the 104 weekdays from West Chester , I had to get on after 8:00AM,as it was pay as you enter. Going home, it's pay as you leave, so the bus had to get to West Goshen before 4:30PM, or after 5:30 PM so my card was valid for a fare..
I tried to be honest.

Of course, this really depends on the driver. I remember when I used to ride the 98 to Willow Grove, there were a few drivers that would definitely enforce the zone fare. When the fare zone was in Broad Axe (Butler and Skippack Pikes), the driver would put over to the side of the road at the bus stop, and point to the specific people that needed to pay the zone fare and we would not move until the zone fare was paid.

One (misguided) lady wouldn't let me go my merry way until I (erroneously) paid the zone fare for my trip. We both agreed that SEPTA should just get rid of zone fares.

Some of the city-to-suburb routes have had their zone fares abolished with the creation of the Zone 1 Trailpasses. Not too long ago on the L, 22, and 55, you weren't permitted to exit via the rear door at all, and if applicable, you had to pay the zone fare. I wouldn't be surprised if this was still the case for stops north of Willow Grove.

These days, though, with the violence against operators significantly increasing, I wouldn't be surprised if operators just stopped bothering with the zone fare enforcement for safety purposes.

Honestly, I wish they would get rid of zone fares because it's just so much easier to just put a token or base fare into the machine without having to calculate how much you need to pay in zone fare or worse, how much to pay for a combination of zone fare and transfer.

I'm so glad my Overrated Student Pass days are over. Those drivers on the 124 are SO misunderstanding. And, on the farebox, it shows as "Student", just like the original. Instead of Zone 3, as shown on the face of the pass.

I would think that a Frontier operator would very seldom ever see any Student Passes on any route other than the 124. None of the other Frontier routes travel more than a few blocks inside the city limits, & pretty much every suburban school district in Frontier territory provides free transportation to their students for nor only their own schools, but also to ANY other school within 10 miles of a district boundary.

I don't agree that the zone fares should disappear - some of these rides are long and should have a surcharge. I was not happy when SEPTA took the zone fares off many routes a couple of years ago for just that reason.

I'd suggest that the zone fares be paid when the rider enters the bus and a receipt/transfer be issued to those who pay the zone fare, to be presented upon their exit. In this manner anyone who disputes it doesn't get on in the first place, or if they do get on and others getting off see a person who didn't pay not presenting the receipt, there may be some peer pressure of sorts to get the guilty party to fess up. Of course, it is the 2010's and sometimes peer pressure doesn't work, but...
