I was on a roadtrip to the eastern trip of Long Island and along the way stopped at Nathan's Hot Dogs for lunch. From what I later learned, this is the largest elevated station station in the world.

It's quite beautiful now considering that 15 years ago it was one of the biggest dumps in the NYC subway system.

A very interesting place - lots of ramps and wide platforms to accommodate big crowds, and a couple of different ways to transfer between lines. The overhead walkway is a good place to take photos also.

But agree it was a dump. I was there on a fantrip in '91 in the pouring rain and there was water everywhere. The station agent opened the men's room for us and it was a trip to be made quickly - the place stunk like it hadn't been cleaned in years, and it was not open to the public for some time before we got to use it as we were told.

The rebuild has transformed it into a very nice and impressive place.
