"Plot Synopsis -No Spoilers-"

Diablo III is a dark fantasy/horror-themed action role-playing game that was developed by Blizzard Entertainment, making it the third installment in the Diablo franchise. The game, which features elements of the hack and slash and dungeon crawl genres, was first announced on June 28, 2008, at the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational in Paris, France, and was released in North America and Europe on May 15, 2012, and in Latin American countries and Russia on June 7, 2012.

The game takes place in Sanctuary, the dark fantasy world of the Diablo series. This world was saved twenty years prior by a handful of unnamed heroes in Diablo II, having survived the onslaught brought by the armies of the Burning Hells, Tyrael rewarded the heroes by sending them to safety. It is up to a new generation of heroes to face the forces of evil threatening the world of Sanctuary.

So, I have lost my boyfriend to this game and he's dropping little hints about it going, "we need a witch doctor", which sounds kind of Warlock-ish which was my class in WoW. and then going "i wonder what you'd play". which is Matt for, "you need to play this with me".

I'm kind interested in it, but at the same time I'm like, "no, I don't want to", I've already committed to GuildWars. Although that game has no real release date in sight. So. So if someone could tell me how it's like WoW, but how it's not. And if it's a game that you get left behind in if you don't have a guild or friends or if it's not. That'd be great.

ALSO tell me more about what I'd play! I've had a lot of success in WoW as a destro!lock and a BM!hunter. So ya.

Is it worth my sixty dollars?

Mari. Diablo is mostly Singleplayer. They have multiplayer for fun.

That is also the motto of Diablo. You will not be behind if you don't have friends to play with. There are no guilds.

You can do everything alone.

It's a bit like WoW if you look at characters.

Beserker = Warrior
Demon hunter= Hunter
Monk = Fast hitting son of a bitch.
Witch Doctor = Summoner
Wizard = Pew Pew mage.

In regards to similarities between WoW and Diablo, I'm not really a WoW guy - so I can't really answer that question very well. There essentially aren't really any healer classes, any class can rezz other players, player movement is exclusive to the mouse (no arrow keys or WASD for movement) and attacks are performed with numbers 1-4 and Mouse1/Mouse2. Stat points in characters are added automatically (which is a big deviation from the Diablo series) and you can respec at will within battle as long as your move in that slot isn't on a cooldown.

All in all, it's very addicting and they've made it pretty easy to jump into and play for players that are new to the series. Not to mention, it's free to play, like Guild Wars. I can send you a guest pass if you'd like, hit me up on AIM.

Some misc tips I've acquired in my first couple of days playing..

Elective mode: Enabling this allows you to freely place any skill on any part of the hotkey bar. The game isn't set for this by default, but on Nightmare and above difficulties you may want to toggle it on. Enabling this gives you a more diverse combination of skill combinations to use at any given time since you can choose more than one from the same skill set! Enabling this may make choosing skills a bit confusing and I don't recommend it until you've beaten normal or are towards the end and have a firm grasp of the class you're playing as.

Mature Language Filter: Disable this if you aren't a baby.

Tip for casters: When casting the game, if the game is in the background and you have to check Skype, the chat, or another window, the game's frames per second will go incredibly low when the window is out of focus. To keep the game running at a smooth framerate when the window isn't in the foreground, increase your Max Background FPS in the options menu!

Taking Screenshots: 'Print Screen' is the key used for snapshots; they are saved to the folder Documents/Diablo III/Screenshots

How close is the Monk class to the Pally class?

Monk is a bald CM Punk with a beard. Hence why Matt's Monk is named Punk.

Matt says he would compare it too a pally, but it's not. In WoW terms yes, Monk is similar to a paladin, but if you want sword and board you'll need a barbarian. Monk's are melee, they can be supportive but they can tanky, but they're dodged based too.

The Wizard+Monk combo works well for Matt and myself.

So, what level is everyone?

My Witch Doctor (i reroled her because I had screwed up) is level 5 and my Wizard is level 8. I have probably played the game for two hours.

So far, I love Witch Doctor. I'm gonna probably play around with Demon Hunter later, I have zero interest in a Barbarian, if you know me. This is typical for me.

Are you one of those people who take time off to play it?

rom's noob guide 4 max damage (CHEAP and easy)
aka: how to not suck at diablo iii for beginners

Basically what you want to do is get gear with the stat point multiplier for your class. Each class has a particular stat, that when increased, will multiply the Damage you do to enemies. You can view your total in the "Details" button when you press "C" in game.
stat point multipliers by class
barb: strength (red gem)
dh/monk: dexterity (green gem)
wd/wiz: intelligence (yellow gem)

A few key points before we go any further;
- Give your gear a once over and anything that is 10+ levels below your current level, you should think about replacing. The level of the gear is shown in the bottom right of it's details.
Posted Image
- For gear that can have slots, ALWAYS go with the slotted versions; rings, chest, head, legs and your weapon can all have slots.
- Don't buy rings without your stat point multiplier (ex; +Strength stat on a ring for your Barbarian).
- Always aim to increase +Damage on your weapon when you upgrade it (either through the weapon's damage per second or by your Stat Point Multiplier). If it's not a big jump, it's probably not worth wasting your money on.
- For all classes, your weapon should have Ruby (red gems) to increase it's Damage. Buy the highest quality Ruby you can afford from the AH.
- Every other piece of armor should be slotted with the stat point multiplier appropriate for your class.
- Helmet is an exception to the above rule. Gems placed on helms don't work like they do on other gear. Ex; red gems (Ruby) in helmets won't give you Strength - instead, they will give you a slight experience boost - I'd recommend using those. Green gems (Emerald) place on a helmet will yield a slight gold drop boost.
- Remember, you can always remove your gems at the gem enchanter for a nominal fee with no ill effect to the equipment! The higher the gem, though, the more money to remove it.
- Always remove and save your expensive gems for when you upgrade gear so that you don't have to re-buy them. You can always save extra ones for alternate characters.

Aaaand last, but not least, watch this short video I made on how to grab the stuff you need using Auction House -- on the cheap;

[dohtml]<object width="640" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dtfONjJAjzA?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dtfONjJAjzA?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>[/dohtml]

Once you're all decked out with the appropriate +Stat and you've filled in your slots with the max gem you can afford, you'll be dishing out insane amounts of damage.

Pay attention to the "Stat Changes if Equipped" on the Damage side of things, they'll give you a better idea as to whether or not an item will deal out more damage or whether it will actually be a downgrade in terms of the damage you're dishing out.

Justin/Psilocybin (Scott Toker) and I finally hit level 60 and I've just begun farming Inferno (the end game difficulty) for loot. I've barely made it into Act 1 and it's looking grim, but hell yeah, rare items!

Here are my stats. I've barely begun to scratch the surface of gear with survivability in this difficulty and most things still kill me in two hits if I'm not careful;

Since the method I used to get to 60 was patched, I can no longer assist in power leveling. Anyone that is trying to power level is best to do the Act 2 Arcanus quest on Nightmare, starting at the checkpoint for the Lieutenant. Once you finish the snake part, you should get around 50k XP, this shouldn't take any more than a minute. Once you get the XP quest reward, leave the game and change the quest to start over. Repeat until you get bored/are no longer getting sufficient XP.
