Technically, couldn't Beauty and the Beast be seen as Orbach's return to his original "type" after years as a film and TV cop? He made his bones as a Broadway musical star in the original casts of The Fantasticks, Promises Promises, Chicago, 42nd Street, etc. Unless of course you just meant the whole French accent thing. :) |

Technically, maybe. I knew his alleged chops but I've never seen any of his Broadway shows so they might not have ever existed. So they don't count. :) |

Well, my pops saw Orbach when he starred in Chicago, so he was a witness to his Broadway chops. I remember when L&O started and he would always mention how great Orbach was as Billy Flynn. PS: I've never seen Beauty and the Beast. |

I am not sure Beauty and the Beast (1991) would be your cup of tea (no Mrs. Potts pun intended) but I'm in love with it. Beautiful everything. Menken and Ashman (a still very sad RIP) were at the top of their collaboration game...as well as all of the animators. But that music. It always give me chills. The Broadway show was excellent as well. Orbach never did this Broadway show. The teaser for the upcoming live-action movie looks promising (as well as the stellar cast) |
