I've seen things...
|
"You should watch more foreign films." -- reelerguy, early 21st c. ... I have seen 49 out of the list. Broke almost even. Would like to watch 20-30 more from the list that are either famous or sound interesting. I guess my biggest regret is not having seen the top film, Werckmeister Harmonies. |

That is completely awesome. And I've finally found an area that I've seen more movies than Yancy! It's just a pity that these were among them...
Hadn't registered my disdain for a bunch of these, that's now corrected. I've gotta love these surprises though
:) |

Kitchen Stories is truly a treasure. You should check it out. I didn't count, but at a glance I think I've missed about 20 of those, but unfortunately haven't updated my cddb ratings in awhile. Will try to catch up over the holiday weekend. |

That's absolute madness. Each and every one of those films is fantastic. How does someone with a Rabbits avatar hate Inland Empire?? L'Intrus and Secret Things in the top 50 and The World being on it at all are the most pleasant surprises for me. |

I count 69 titles that I've seen, which leaves a pretty darn nice list to undertake in '08. |

Even though I also like each of those films, I can think of reasons why someone wouldn't. Except for the Haneke film. That one stumps me. |

That's true. It's not any one or two in particular that I found surprising, but all 7 combined into one all-encompassing diss (and from kid c who normally has good taste :)) threw me for a loop. |

:) I guess this is more Heresy thread material but here we go anyway... Dull: 49t Downfall 54 Children of Men 66 Brick 100 Code: Unknown It's not that there's anything amazingly wrong with these films. All of them have great concepts but, in my opinion of course, just don't do anything particularly interesting with them. Brick in particular, like the concept, but the execution is overly ponderous and takes itself a bit too seriously for the rather silly (but, admittedly, still noir) plot to work. Downright shocking: 16t The New World 35t INLAND EMPIRE 63 The Company Malick's film is rather astonishingly awful, but then I thought Thin Red Line was little better. Couldn't see the point to any of it, pretty though. Yancy comments in his review for Altman's film that people who dislike it seem to do so because "it's a slice-of-life with little in the way of narrative or characterization" which is fine, only Altman brings nothing to the table that you can't find in movies that do have narrative and characterisation. After the n-th interminable scene of people I don't know bending their bodies and getting shouted at by other people I don't know I wonder why I'm watching this and not any old Dancing With The Stars repeat. Malcolm McDowell is the best thing about the film but I'd rather have Bruno Tonioni any day. I've just put my long review of IE in the DB. As to why I love Rabbits, it's because it appears to have sprung from a single, consistant and outrageously terrifying vision, as opposed to IE which feels like a cut-and-paste job (better explained in my review). |

Dear Mr. Dirt, How hard would be to get some stats on how many titles each member has rated, and a breakdown of the ratings (PRO, pro, mixed, con, CON)? I remember back when we started and the # of titles was so small, we could poke fun at Mr. Jiggy for being an easy grader. I miss that. |

piece of cake. I'll make some minor adjustments to the Browse Members selection. (There has *got* to be a better title for that one.) |
