I'm surprised you all hated Redes. I thought it fascinating as a Mexican, Soviet propaganda film. |

But fascinating and good aren't necessarily the same thing. I'm glad I saw it and read a little about its backstory but I found it way too blunt and simplistic to enjoy. EDIT: The eternal debate between historical relevance and artistic appreciation, I guess. Didn't we debate this in another Poll thread? I remember winning. |

True, but to me it was fascinating and good. I won't disagree that it was also simplistic and blunt. I loved the photography, which to me was right up there with some of the best Soviet work of the silent period. But hey, I didn't vote for Swing Time, so what do I know? :) |

LOL, you probably did and I won't argue the point this time. I made the same point about Triumph of the Will. I think Redes worked for me more than you guys. |

I think my last cuts were San Francisco, The Devil Doll, A Woman Rebels and These Three. I admit that I back-burnered Redes after seeing it lacked support. So I prioritized all those Japanese titles, none of which ended up on my list. Sisters of the Gion came the closest. |
