There's a 1987 short that has a pretty good chance of making the top 5.

I normally have a "no shorts" policy for these polls, because who cares what I wear in the privacy of my own home.

But seriously, ladies and germs...

I gave A Day in the Country a pass because at 40 minutes it's much longer than a Warner Bros. cartoon, and two-thirds the length of any number of 30s "B" features. Plus, it's great. All this taken together allows me to sleep at night (with no shorts).

I, for one, have made a concerted effort this time around to NOT put any shorts under a half hour or so (ie, cartoons) in my list. Dunno why, just seemed right. Or else some of my lists might have been half-filled with toons.

It *should* make the top five but all voters would have to be very generous. (Hmmm, I need to revisit some of the titles for that year and modify ratings on others).

I had to look up "pipped to the post" to see if I was being insulted. :) Never heard that before and its possible etymology is interesting. You've been hanging out with English professors too much Mr. West.

That would not be a bad thing. Truth is truth. That's why I felt so, uh, impure by not including I Love To Singa. But whatever. At least I got an excuse to post it and watch it again a few (and more) times.

Mental imagery of a short-less Yancy has now over-ridden the thoughts of a kanoddling Scalia. Happy hour may come early today.

That was Kid C and I had no earthly idea what it meant either, but my life has improved now that I know. Love you, internet.

Whoops. Sorry for the confusion. My eyesight is particularly troublesome today.

No problem.

Back to the subject of short films, I also try not to include them, but I think 2015 will be interesting because of World of Tomorrow. I would have to include it in my list. 2014 has Too Many Cooks, which I loved, but I probably wouldn't include.

A Ryan Seacrest type.
I include them if I find them particularly noteworthy, or if the feature film crop is weak.

If we are thinking of the same movie, the damned imdb has changed it to 1988!

We must not be:

Needless to say it is highly recommended. I think this is one that Russ recommended.

Both of them make my top 20 (as it stands currently) in their respective years.

Haha. :) It never even occurred to me that people might not know what it meant.

I'm sure I've said this before but MOTHLIGHT says more in 5 minutes than most filmmakers say in their entire careers. I don't think length has any inherent bearing on how dense a film is. Looney Tunes in terms of jokes, Kenneth Anger in terms of images, Peter Kubelka in terms of ideas, Fleischer Brothers in terms of excitement, Jeff Keen in terms of energy: their films are bursting. You could pad their work out with dead space to feature length and they'd still be more dense than their equivalents. I will never feel guilty about knocking off a feature film for something like Peter Greenaway's WINDOWS :)
