Late cut. Only saw it once, years ago, lousy transfer. Haven't had the chance to really fall for it/him. An obvious great, though.

As far as my personal knowledge and quick googling goes, I don't think PEE WEE'S PLAYHOUSE ever made it to British TV back in the day. I was sort of aware of him as I grew up because of the Tim Burton connection but I certainly don't remember anybody ever talking about him over here. But thanks to Netflix and a nostalgic American girlfriend I finally watched my first episode of PLAYHOUSE a few months back and... blimey. It's so free form, possesses this propulsive, jittery energy and a really manic inventiveness. I'd be quicker to compare it to avant-garde jazz than any other children's TV show, I've never seen anything like it.

kc, you should check out his old HBO special, which is on DVD, The Pee-Wee Herman Show, a precursor to the Saturday morning Playhouse, with a slightly more of an "adult" edge (ie., lots of innuendo). I highly recommend it.
