Oh sure, you count that fool Herzog's vote, but you don't count mine? I was the star of that picture, by Gott!

Sorcerer (William Friedkin)

I really wanted to catch this. I tried a while ago but had to give up early due to subtitles (I understand that they are not used throughout the film but I hate missing anything). I'll try to catch it when I can pause the thing.

Someone on the FBFF said something like "if you don't watch foreign films then you should just hang it up". Well, I had to give up most foreign films and even a lot of domestic ones, like this one, because of subtitles. I know it limits my exposure to some great stuff. Sad to say, I'm almost legally blind at this point (I sure can't drive legally, which really sucks), but I can read some stuff slowly (my font size on computers is embarrassing).

Whatever...I need to see this. The little story between the movie and the music is awesome. I've always loved Tangerine Dream

Sorry to hear that Dirt, but I wouldn't take a comment like that to heart. I would make a similar comment but it would be aimed more at people unprepared to watch foreign cinema.

I remember an anecdote I once read about Stan Brakhage. When he was lecturing at university one of his classes would involve him projecting an Eisenstein film completely out of focus to show that you can communicate through abstract shapes. So you have a very, very long way to go before Brakhage thinks you should hang it up! :)

I saw that post and even though I agree that foreign films are amazing, I was irked by it. Sweeping statements like that just bother me.

That aside, I hate to hear that your eyes are so limiting. Is there a way to correct them or is this just something you have to deal with?

Don't really know...or at least I'm getting different opinions. I switched doctors after a horrible experience with an eye injection and the new guy says he would like to see improvement. I get to go there today for some more injections (4K $ a shot!! Holy crap!). After that my eyeballs might have to go under the knife. I hope not. Barring improvement, they're considering themselves successful if they slow the degradation.

That said, I get to take some drugs shortly to relieve some of the anxiety/trauma of the upcoming shots. Haven't done these babies in a long time so there's that. Plus it'll help tolerate my wife's driving to the medical center. :)

Is this a recent phenomena or something that's gradually occurred? My eyesight sucks, but it's correctable with contact lenses. Without lenses I have "20/--" vision, as in I can't read the biggest letter on the chart, even though I know it's always an "E."

This current retina issue has been been a big concern for about a year and a half now...it was probably working it's nastiness for a while longer. Glasses help but not good enough for motor vehicles. I can always see the blotchy E and usually the line after it but without glasses its a no go. If I stare long enough I can usually make out other letters but I think it's more because I've seen those charts so often I've got them memorized. I use a magnifying glass a lot. :)

I love Buñuel

Well that sucks, Dirt. I guess your eyes are good enough for Star Wars.

As always, cheers to another year .. This one was just okay, but 67 will more than make up for it.
