Another deserter....

He's a Tolkien man. Tolkien spelled it "dwarves", deliberately and emphatically. The rest of the world, not so much. :) |

Crap. I meant to watch that one. Either way it probably won't change the top 3. |

I was hoping for the upset, but I figured there wasn't much of a shot. By the looks of it, it was close but still had a ways to go. Great list overall though. That top 7 is killer! |

As always thanks Jeff. Close at the top from a total points perspective.
And Russ and I had the same 1-3. Last round (1947), Jeff and I had an identical top 5. |

Two days after voting for this poll closed, I stumbled upon the Universal Barbara Stanwyck six-film DVD collection that contains Internes Can't Take Money at my local library. If I had seen it earlier, it wouldn't have been an orphan. It would have easily made my top ten, probably at number six or seven. My PRO review will be in the CDDB thread before long. |

Excellent :fresh:. I have that collection. The film's excellence made me seek out other Alfred Santell films (Polly of the Circus, Winterset, Breakfast for Two, That Brennan Girl) but so far, to me, Internes is the best. My minus must have been for the odd title. :P |

I've seen Winterset, but too long ago to remember much. I've also seen the superbly directed and acted but erratically scripted Having Wonderful Time (1938) and That Brennan Girl, which I rated a bit higher than you (pro(+)). I thought the latter was nearly as impressive visually as Internes; as Santell's final film, perhaps it was a culmination of everything he learned over the course of his nearly 30 years behind the camera. He was only about 51 when he retired, living to be 85. It's a shame he didn't get or create more opportunities to show his stuff. |
