Stayed awake just to watch this again. Yeah, I'm a fan. And a tired one now...but I do like this movie. |

In case anyone wasn't aware, Malick is divisive. |

I would have ranked this much higher if I hadn't re-watched it last week. Richard Gere and Brooke Adams trying to look like farm workers made me laugh out loud. |

He wasn't with me until To the Wonder - the aftertaste which has left me unmotivated even to check out his latest. |

I mentioned in the poll for our poll thread that I kinda regretted leaving off several music-related films, one of which was Grease. I don't know if I'd call it a great film, but I find it entertaining as hell. I actually remember coming out of seeing in in '78 and being in a great mood and feeling like I wanted to dance. In addition to a TV viewing or two over the years, I also saw the 20th anniversary re-release in the theater. Anyone see the production of Grease Live that Fox aired earlier this year? It got pretty great reviews. The director did the current B'way smash Hamilton. I haven't seen it yet, but it's been on Hulu, and Netflix added it recently. |

Oddly enough, it's my unexpected enjoyment of To the Wonder, which I can't fully explain, that has led me to think I should take a chance on other of his films that I've skipped. Badlands is one of my favorite films; Days of Heaven was okay but a disappointment; The Thin Red Line just didn't work for me, so I skipped The New World and Tree of Life. I'm sure I'll get to them eventually, especially now that The New World has a Criterion release. |

Our family enjoyed the Fox live version of Grease well enough. Every time I watch the original, I'm struck by how incredibly charismatic John Travolta was at that time. |

Only caught about 20 minutes of Grease Live - but got bored. Seemed fine. Would have likely stuck it out if the kids were watching. Saw the 78 film again rather recently and thought the filmmaking craft was better than I had remembered. My sister played the sound track album (double LP) to death back in the day. |

To the Wonder is far from my favorite, but I didn't dislike it as much as I expected. My expectations were pretty low, as they are for the new one. I'll make no secret that I'm in the tank for Malick, but sometimes it takes a second viewing. That was the case with The New World and The Thin Red Line, but The Tree of Life blew me away after the first viewing and I haven't revisited it in its entirety yet. I actually strongly dislike Grease, but that's more because I couldn't escape it during my childhood. It was like that song you hear far too many times (or songs in this case). I put it somewhere in the 30s of this list just because the film did have an impact. I hate to use the word historical, but it probably is fair. |
