After all.....

This was nirvana for me as a kid, watching it for when it first came out on the big screen. What an incredible experience. My wife is amazed at how often I still watch it. Well....was amazed. Now she just shakes her head, chuckles, and mumbles something like "...again?" |

I'm embarrassed to admit I've never seen Bullitt or Planet of the Apes. I hadn't heard of The Swimmer before until recently and it sounds fascinating. I'm surprised it landed so high here, but only more reason to prioritize it. So happy to see Death By Hanging land so high! My favorite Oshima aside from The Ceremony and, perhaps, Violence at Noon. |

Right after seeing this, I thought it might be a strong contender for my #1. Then I took a look at my other choices and realized it wasn't happening. Maybe if it had come out the following year. |

I considered a higher spot, but decided I would need another watch before I would move it up a notch or two. But I'd never even heard of it before this poll, so a major revelation indeed. Thanks fugees! |

So 2001 was on all 11 ballots, and everyone had it in their top 10. Not too shabby. |

It's just overrated. In the most recent update for the MST3K Kickstarter, Joel talked about how the Satellite of Love bone design is an homage to this film. Maybe that's an old story, but had never heard it before. |
