I'd have thought it the other way round, Shay. Despite a climax perhaps understandably over-the-top, an alien design a bit too busy and a forced romantic angle, Edge of Tomorrow is a strikingly effective genre exercise. Was taken by surprise by it myself, trotting it home from the library one day for kicks, and I've probably over-valued it as a result, but A Most Violent Year is the film that strikes me as admirable without being lovable.

A Most Violent Year was also one I half-expected to be just outside, but I guess the admiration was just good enough.

I mean, I had both on my ballot (and pretty close to each other) so it's not so much about my personal opinion, just where I expected the votes might shake out. I saw Edge of Tomorrow coming in the bottom third of a lot of lists, which is pretty much what happened.

Been wanting to see these dang ape movies. Wish Netflix or Hulu would step up. The second one was on HBO Now for a while I think, but didn't want to watch without seeing the first.

Good thing I sent my list before vacay because no way I'd have remembered otherwise.

Last cuts:

Phoenix
Chef
Inherent Vice
Force Majeure
Kingsman: The Secret Service
Big Hero 6
Winter Sleep

I wanted to watch Pigeon Sitting on a Branch, but didn't get to it.

Karim really likes those 30 for 30s.

Guilty as charged. My draft of this list had more.

But this stings more...the giant Baymax in our living room is sad.

Oh, thanks for the Jason Clarke screenshot, vorn. :)

I did like this movie a good deal, but . . . the list just got crowded.

HBO Now dropped What We Do in the Shadows shortly before I started putting together a list of stuff to see for this poll. Ah well.
