Is it heresy to say I've never quite understood the big deal about this film? I like it. It's fun. It's got big movie stars. I love Westerns. It's a key transitional work from '50s classicism to '70s "New Hollywood." William Goldman's DNA is in just about every mainstream "buddy" film made since. I just don't see anything that special in the script, which I've also read. |

Those are all the reasons why it's #11 on my list. Also Conrad Hall's photography. Is it one of the 100 Greatest American Films (per AFI)? No. |

Is it heresy to say I've never understood the big deal about The Wild Bunch? OK, but just not memorable at all. |

Seems like it would be memorable even to one who disliked it, or have the imitators stolen its thunder? |

I didn't even dislike it...seemed enjoyable enough while watching and then immediately evaporated like a mouthful of cotton candy. The only thing memorable was the opening credits. Whatever imitators it had I must've missed or been unaware. |

I just meant how Peckinpah's stylistic signatures, such as slo-mo violence, have been imitated and parodied over the years. Thought that might have made it seem old hat to some at this late date. |
