Mrs. Givens has a million books in her used bookstore here in Madisonville, Ky. She has entire series going back for years. I asked her if she advertised, and , at age 83, she has no clue, nor the finances to set something up for her store. Is it difficult to set up a web page? Is there some way to get her store out so that people can find those hard to find books that she has? Any/all advice is appreciated!

OK, the web page side of it I can help with and give some basic advice.... Oh heck, just contact GoDaddy and they can help set up a basic account etc. The biggest will be to inventory the books and have list of available books. |

Below is some general information that might be helpful. It’s not hard to start a site, but it is time consuming. The first steps are to register a domain name, choose a hosting company (most hosting companies also register the name for the customers). Purchase software something with a shopping cart is best, if she wants to accept online orders. If people are giving their personal information or using a shopping cart it should be a secure site (probably best even if she isn’t requesting personal information). The shopping cart doesn't have to immediately charge the card at time of order. She could choose to get the card information that the software stores, then manually charge the card with her current merchant services company. She could choose to list her books with cover pictures (time consuming because of scanning and loading pictures... reproduction\copyright concerns??) or list the books in categories (genre\author...) with the ability to click on the listing for further book information and ordering information and purchasing options. Domain name registrations expire so it should be registered again before the time expires. This is just some basic information, so I hope this helps |

I have been lurking, and putting out my new hummingbird feeders! I love my new feeders, but hubby will not be pleased at the money I spent on them! Oh, well, He left town on business, and I took full advantage to buy what I wanted w/o having to go into minute detail with him about the merits of my new feeders. It is hard sometimes being married to a pathologist! He wants all of the details! It is not like he is having to make a diagnosis FGS! Anyway, All of my new feeders are hung, and my hummers have been feeding at them. I just love the seasons when I see new birds, then baby birds with their mommas, and then juveniles etc. In the fall when they start migrating, I have to refill my feeders at least twice a day, sometimes 3 times in a 24 hour period! Do any of you feed the birds? Any hummingbirds? I love to talk about feeding the birds. Please feel free to Email me if I could be of assistance to you, or answer any questions that you may have about the care and feeding of birds, or hummingbirds.

Thanks for the advice on how to do a website for Mrs. Givens. She is truly book poor. She has no money to put into a web site, I have no experience at all with setting up a web site for someone( for free)(or charge for that matter since I have never done this before!) But I am hoping to help her if possible. She is a nice lady, but since she is deaf (sorta); poor (from buying books), elderly(84), and I know absolutely nothing about how to set up a website (for free), I may be of less than more help! YIKES!! I just feel so sorry for her. OMG, She has a MILLION books. She has so many "sets" of books, all in order, and from before I was born, probably ;>) Old to new releases. If anyone needs a book in a series, do check with her. She has to be emailed because she cannot hear well, or at all, really:( |

There are companies that host websites for free, but there is a catch. They have the right to place advertising banners\links on your pages, so when you customers go to your site they see their ads. You have limited control of what is advertised on your site since they are hosting it for you for free. There are also low cost options, which could cost less then $7 per month. I think those options are based on paying annually not monthly. There are also website building templates online that can be used for free. If she is just looking to use the site for information purposes and to list her available books, there wouldn't be the need to have the added expense of shopping cart software. I’m just sharing info from my past experience. |
