A few online retailers are going to start charging sales tax starting June 1st for New York and a few other states. I hope my state isn't included! |

That sucks. I know that B&N charges sales tax for Virginia. But most other places I ordered online didn't, thank goodness. |

I hadn't heard anything about CA. But I do know that if the online retailer has a brick and mortar store in the state (area?) they have to charge sales tax. That is why places like B&N and Victoria's Secret charge tax on online orders. Still for me it is easier than going to the store, too much drive time (an hour each way
)

AT this point, you're probably saving more on gas than you're paying in tax! Anybody heard anything recently about the government intention of taxing email because it is costing the PO money? |

Even though I drive a hybrid, that is probably true!! I haven't heard anything about taxing of e-mail, the post office will just keep raising the rates. I work at our local (very small, one person) post office part-time, and the regular rate changes are a pain in the butt. I just get everything figured out and they change it again. I know we pay taxes on phones, cell phones etc - maybe we already pay taxes for our ISPs? |

If a business has any kind of facility in a state (store, warehouse, offices, etc) they have to charge sales tax in that state because they are considered to be doing business in the state. I've been paying tax on my Amazon.com orders for years - their corporate headquarters are here in Washington. |

There have been rumblings for years about charging tax or "postage" on e-mails, but I haven't heard anything recently, and the last I did hear was that (at that time anyway) there was no truth to it. Let's hope I'm right!!!! |

They tax anything so it wouldn't surprise me if some lawmaker was thinking of an e-mail tax. <_< |
