Thank goodness I have a boy! All I have to worry about is that he turns into one of those guys! I was such a sucker for those guys They were so cool and the more Bad Boy attitude they had the more I wanted them. And oh, they new all the right things to say and do!CeeJay, I don't know how that got into style but I guess my parent's parents thought the same about the Hippie style All I can say is that those were the guys I was all over. Thinking back I can't believe it either!

Shnuppi said it as good as I ever could... Those guys had a presence about them that was like honey to a bee for a hormonal teenager! lol. They were the cool guys and for us ( the girls where I am from), it was hard for a girl to break into the circle of that group... so if you got in, you were the Sh*t. I only dated those types of boys basically until my husband came along. I can't tell you the lines that I heard from them... I was young, I thought they had swagger... lol |

It doesn't really bother me as long as his pants stay up (which was an issue when he starting eating vegetarian, he got so thin!) and the holes aren't too big (or in a really bad spot). It is mostly a big joke now. This sort of goes with another discussion too... But my general parenting philosophy is that if they are clean, well behaved, doing their best in school and any other activities they participate it, then it really doesn't matter how they are dress or how long their hair is or how strange it is cut... As long as it isn't offensive or inappropriate. Not that I didn't tell them when I didn't like something, but if you only want to wear black and wear your hair long while riding an imaginary cow - hey, more power to ya I never had any major issues with that, but I think it is hard to rebel when you don't get a big response either. |

My parents pretty much let me do whatever I wanted. Didn't mean they cared or there weren't any rules but I never had the urge to rebel. For example I had a pretty late curfew. My parents wanted to know where Im going and with who and than we negotiated a time where I was supposed to be back. Most of my friends had to be home before me so I never felt like I had to test out how far I can push my curfew. And if I knew I wouldn't make it back in time I called and asked my parents if that's ok too. I had rules but since I had rules that were acceptable I never had to break them. I plan to do the same with my kid(s) |

My daughter also went through that stage not long ago, the jeans hanging of her butt god i hated that look. I remeber one day we were both going to the hairdressers and she was wearing her skinny jeans (which look fine when worn correctly) but of course she was wearing them so they were hanging of her and that damn hoody that i hate it's 2 sizes too big it's got a motiff of a gun on the front and a big skull on the back with the name of a band called Bullet For MY Valentine.Anyway i took one look at her and said there is nooo way you are coming with me dressed like that. She did smarten herself up.It was only afterward that i thought i sound like my parents Thankfully she does dress a lot better now she's coming up 15 this year And why do they wear their trainers the way they do, don't they know how to fasten laces. |

Oh well, I didn't tie my shoes either... And I love Bullet for my Valentine. "Hearts burst into fire" is one of my favorite songs right now. But I always wore tight clothes (not slutty I think though)

Schnuppi, how old are you ( if you don't mind me asking?? ) you have got to be somewhere close to my age... Everything you said sounds just like when I was growing up... We didn't tie our shoes either... we had a way that we laced them so they wouldn't slip and then stuck them down into the side.... a lot like what you see kids today doing, but we all seemed to have a white shoe fetish then.... or Birkenstock slip on's... I remember when they got REAL big for a while. |

I just turned 28! Yep, we tucked the laces in on the sides and the big thing were white sneakers. You either had the Adidas Superstars or the Nike Converse. KSwiss were ok too Birkenstock's weren't that popular in my group but I do remember them. Gee, we really had a dress-code going on

I find that in my son's case its best not to show any reaction..I can see him looking and waiting for me to say something negative ...but I've learnt... ha ha ...if I say nothing he soon gets bored and the offending item of clothing gets dropped kicked to the floor in his bedroom !!...now there's a perk of getting older ...wisdom and how to outsmart a teenager !..LOL..do not show any weakness..do not react no matter how ghastly the hair looks ...! close your eyes when entering their bedrooms...!where protective clothing and gloves when going to collect dishes and cups from their bedrooms !...Tracy please tell me you know what I saying..fellow sufferer.. . ..i mean parent of a teenager ! |
