Super Bowl; Dynasty, Underdog, or Commercials?

Will you be watching? Who are you rooting for? Are you hoping the Steelers add to their dynasty? Or the Cardinals will pull off the upset and win in their first attempt? Or do you just watch for the commercials?

Or do you ignore the whole thing and go shopping like my aunt and grandma do?

Arizona all the way - can't get over what Pittsburgh did to the Seahawks a few years ago. Love the commercials, too. Traditional Superbowl party with the same core group for at least the last 14 years (I don't remember for sure when we started, but I do remember the year my 14-year-old niece was just a couple of months old - and I think that might have been the first year). It's going to be interesting, because one of the people hosting the party grew up in PA and still has a lot of family back there. When Pittsburgh was playing the Seahawks he was rooting for the Seahawks, but I don't know which direction he might go this year.

I couldn't really follow any football this season soapboxrant Last year AFN showed at least some of the football games but I guess with the time difference and because they can't show them live they decided to only show some 15 Minute highlights of every game. So I can't really say who deserves it more

Yea, I am for Arizona all the way! Jumphappy I often root for the underdog, just how I am. But in this case there were a lot of people saying that Arizona didn't even deserve to be in the playoffs (they were saying that about the Chargers too executioner ) I love it when the sayings like "On any given Sunday" and "That's why we play the game" have meaning PomPom2

The ads have been somewhat disappointing the last few years, but there is always one or two that stand out. RRlaugh

But I forgot to include in the list of reasons to watch - the halftime show! Does anybody watch for the halftime show? I'm thinking Springsteen is going to be enjoyable to watch  Thank goodness for Tivo or I would never get a bathroom break!

Not sure what we are doing for the game this year, I have been invited over to some friends house as it may turn out that I am home alone for the game. I'm not sure how that would go over - I put the "fan" in "fanatic". Or at least it seems that way to those who don't enjoy football like I do. RRCrazy I wonder if they have Tivo...?

Kat - sounds like you'd fit in just perfectly at our party! We get pretty intense and loud - in fact we've been known on more than one occasion to run the kids out (or at least back to the bedrooms) because we're making too much noise for them. And all this with no alchohol. Well, occasionally someone will bring a few wine coolers, but even that's the exception rather than the rule. It's a crazy bunch, and we start talking Superbowl party about the time the regular season starts! Oh, and usually halftime is when everyone scatters for bathrooms, food, chores (for the kids), etc. but this year Springsteen might be worth watching.

I've never enjoyed sports (especially football...even after attending everyone game for 6 years in Jr. High and HS with the band). Sports and I will never be a match.

I have been to a few SB parties with dates, but I usually ended up in another part of the house with the "We hate football" group watching something else.

I don't like Bruce Springstein. (Asshole)

SO, the next day, I'm gonna go on a website and watch the commericals.

Here's her store

ANYHOW, those are my weekend plans.

Well, I live in Pittsburgh so I think I would be kicked out of the city if I didn't root for them. doorhide catfight givehoot

People here are crazy for their football team! RRCrazy Everyone is wearing Steeler stuff today. We are having a happy hour after work today here at the office, I am sure it will get pretty crazy. beercheer We have lots of food and beer, plus they play tapes about the Steelers. There goes the diet today! givehoot cookieemo

I am not a huge football fan, I will probably only watch parts of the game. I only want to watch a few commercials and a little bit of the game. Luckily my husband is mostly a fan of college football so he doesn't make me watch it. I don't really care that much who wins but I would rather Pittsburgh so the people here don't get too depressed (I am not kidding - they do get depressed when their team loses). crycry

That's what I don't get.

Like,
it's a sport. They're paid to entertain.

Sports fans can go over the edge sometimes, but even with other forms of entertainment you invest a little part of yourself and have an emotional reaction about it.

Otherwise, we wouldn't throw books at the wall or have a section here about books we hate. Readers wouldn't feel betrayed by authors who they feel have left them behind to pursue more "legitimate" works. Or even just change their style. Same goes for movies. Or TV shows.

Yep, you nailed that one right on the head! It's hard not to get at least a little bit involved when you watch a game.

Even if Im not fan of a certain team that's playing it's hard for me not to pick one team I want to win. And you do get frustrated if you invested all that time to watch a game and you don't get what you want out of it.

Good point! I think for me, I'm not a crowd person and I like being in familiar situations and having control etc. Books are like that. TV is like that.

Sports ain't. No, I'm not a 'team' player either. I'm the Queen running things (it's a joke with the dance troupe) or I'm doing things solo. No in between.

Well, even though the "wrong" team won - what a great game! PomPom2

I even think the commercials were better this year RRlaugh

Great game, great commercials (LOVED the Mean Joe Greene Coke parody RRlaugh ) and my friend's husband won $550 in an office pool! Guess I can handle the wrong team winning!

I watched. I always do....even though my team wasn't in it (grumble, grumble). I was for Arizona. I wanted to see them win there first attempt. And my team is Greenbay - and afterall they were playing for the Lombardi trophy, so I didn't want to see any Dynasties unless it's Greenbay. It was a good game though.

OH and Essie you and I feel EXACTLY the same way about Bruce Springsteen.
