The punk thread should be open so I can post my disagreement in public forum. Punk is not a feeling; punk is not a way of thought. "Punk" has no real meaning at all, unless you want to count the dictionary definition as absolute - I doubt any of you do. Y'all are just misappropriating some junk term that some rock critic or some shit applied way back when on some band that nobody gives two shits about. It's just some arbitrary, absurd framework that has been used to approximate the concept of individuality (with some crazy-ass exceptions used specifically to include music). And what's with that sub-forum allowing no more posts? Is this Nazi Germany? Furthermore, I don't give TWO SHITS that I constantly changed from second to third person to passive. GAVIN OUT, YO!! p.s. what up to all my bitches in mothafucking VIRGINIA?!?!??! |

start a new punk thread if you want. hall of fame is meant to preserve the pristine-ness of legendary threads and to make them available for all to view. when the punk thread was archived for some reason it wasn't locked like all the other threads and even though it is a "locked forum" the x fridge was still able to edit his posts, so he edited all the posts he made in that thread where everybody pointed out why he was an idiot. |

wait what so what does punk mean to you i am kinda confused? i think that i kinda do agree with yr sentiment tho - n i tend to refrain from using punk to describe myself but what i consider punk i guess is more of a mentality that is better summarized by "lo-fi". raw, gritty, n perfect. i dont go by all the being a scumbag, dissing society, or whatever, but is still think that "punk" as a musical form or an ideal helps me to aspire to be less caring of society, seeking my own shelter n solutions from within. or is this not what you were saying at all? |

//On Punk As time passes on, punk means less and less to me. Though it didn't teach me to do so, punk rock inspired me to think outside the box; that's what I thought my idols were doing (in the naivete generally associated with youth). I've found that most punk music isn't about individuality, but rather contrarianism for the sake of being contrary. Even when it wasn't being contrary, it was just offering some absolutist stance on something completely debatable. The only use of "punk" to me is to describe a sound, and even then its application is vague. All there really is is music. //On Lo-Fi and the Creation of Art In the process of making art, the ideal is such that there is no interference between the creator(s) and the creation if his/their object - granted, this is a personal ideal and subject to disagreement. Tangents aside, to a certain degree I associate with low fidelity, rawness, and grit. Under these circumstances it is clear that there is little if any interference between the creator and his object. Under such a set-up is simply a matter of man, instrument, and recording material. However, one should never make the mistake of low fidelity worship. The worship of low-fidelity can become a constraint and ultimately an interference between the creator and his object if he reveres it for non-artistic reasons. The only consideration for medium is such that it should serve his vision. Therefore, it follows that there is absolutely nothing wrong with having the most polished, produced work ever, as long as it is consistent with the artist's vision. Not all visions are created equal, though... but I don't feel comfortable going into that, for I haven't given it enough consideration. tldr - I'm listening to Hieroglyphics and it's groovy gravy |

i think yer correct on punk n would also add that anyone trying to label themselves as punk or punk revival or post hardcore or emoscreamocreamo today should probably just admit that they are posers. of course there is terrible lofi music as well as terrible polished music, the problem is that with big studio polish there is a much greater temptation to destroy the original vision with tricks n gloss. |
