man, I just read through a bunch of that Morewinkle Romebrackets thread, and that thing is incredible (it's weird trawling thru old Rome threads and looking at them thru the lens of an ersatz historian, as opposed to how i used to experience Rome). but man, like, if someone ever wanted to understand any ideology behind romewinkle itself, that's the thread. like, everyone explains so much about their musical taste and how it developed, in ways that were actually legible and not couched 3 layers deep in esoteric rome-flavored memespeak. i hardly even member that thread, and looking back at some of my votes, i definitely hadn't even listened to some of those artists. idk, rome got me into My Bloody Valentine/Fugazi/Frodus/John Coltrane but i don't feel like I ever understood those artists (though i was also introduced others like Pixies whom I came to know & love). but yeah, like, I keep coming back to this theme of reading old Rome stuff as a way to learn about myself, cus obviously I can't remember my thoughts from years ago, but some of them are pretty well preserved here, which is cool. plus there's so much thoughtful & funny stuff that romers used to come up with, and the audience was just ourselves (Math named one of the brackets the "J. Robin Adams Memorial Bracket" - hysterical). and yeah, I often struggle with the feeling of being worthless, or being perceived as invisible, so, personally, seeing something i created being used by others as a way to have meaningful experiences is like, meaningful to me. & that's some dizzle |

wow just burned a lot of time reading Morewinkle Romebracket. GREAT thread, sad that I didn't take part in so much of it! miles davis and RATM were featured too heavily! miles is more deserving, but he got so far in the tourney.... |

yeah this thread is great. but it reminds me of how much i was a jerk to josh and martha, pretty lame sometimes of me. sonic youth < deltron for me now! a lot of these votes i would not make today. but what i like about it is i was like WHO DO YOU WANT TO HEAR RIGHT NOW, which i think is still the best way to vote those things, not thinking all time favs (altho sometimes my reasoning slipped into all time fav status) or legacy picks. my fav part was when other people xplained their reasons, very cool. |

well dudes, i'm going away this summer for west coast, gonna stay with some family in oregon and clean up dogs and roam plateaus and stuff. driving out there and "am" kinda nervous about that, also might try to catch this band in san diego four days after i leave from NY, so that means i gotta drive a lot in a short time, which is kinna hard. gotta like, "get away" or some shit, and thankfully i have a job that gives me summers off so i gotta do something with that, ya dig. but yeah, i dunno, i feel like my life is at this "tipping point" and the next two weeks could determine either if things go really well one way or if they "drop off" and go "down the shitter" or whatever because of various stupid stuff, mostly just normal anxieties about getting old and getting married (btw the way congratulation trippy i wish i could be there at your wedding m8) and what have you. So yeah, but still hopin people post up on the Winkle and stuff, always nice to have a lil somethin to fall back on. i member when i spent a few months alone in Peru and logging on here de vez en cuando and postin, that was good. anyway, HMU hit me up if you want because at this point IML the thing i enjoy most is talkin to people I known a while bout stuff that wouldn't be funny to anyone else but the people i'm talkin to. & that's some dizzle |

whoa dude. i thin kthats awesome that you are taking charge and doing something, moving, travelling is great. those anxieties are part of human life, and it is raw and real (but sucks) to face them head on. but do it. with gusto, that's real livin. jana will be in san diego this summer - --- maybe you could connect? you know we will keep the winkle up and it will be slow and low and few and far between, but it will be there and yr old pals have yr back. i know that prob sounds kinda silly over the internet, but i feel like technology hasnt really changed the fundamentals. |

just got back from a trip to upstate NY to chill at my parents' cabin and jump in the frigid lake, hike mountains, etc. i think it's great that you're bustin out and roaming. envious! I actually did a month in Peru (summer 2010) too and it was rad. it was weird to go down to this small colonial-style mountain town and get in an internet cafe and check email / romewinkle. or sit on a bus winding through the mountains and listen to like Neurosis and His Name is Alive, bands that bring me right back to home / friends. i'm unpacking from our trip and juggling around al bunch of random stuff I have. just found a tennis ball with one word written on it - "Ho" ^ the kind of thing that no one but you guys would understand |

Trippy, I almost thought you were gonna say Albert Pujols. I guess the mystery lives on...We'll never know Mikey you should just go traveling in general. Quit that job yo! That's what I did and now I live in the UK with my wife I met down unda in Australia, though I'm working a mediocre job but traveling opened up a lot of doors for me. If you have the money you should do it. |

My job is pretty tight so I aint gonna quit, but I do remember that girls liked me a lot more in other countries than they did here. I also find it hilarious that you are married, to an Australian, and live "in the UK." |

i spent a lot of time on buses and just listening to different musics in general made me feel all different types of things, some of it was discovery, some of it was nostalgia. and yeah i remember having to go into some telephone booth business place to call my parents or something. that stuff is weird. also, there's a place in upstate NY with a hilarious name - "ausable chasm" - that i always bring up in convos about upstate NY. everything there is "ausable" - Ausable Forks, the Ausable Brewery, etc. and it so happens that all this stuff lies in the municipality/township of Peru, New York. weird. I drove by there on the way to Canada once and there was a mountain of tires along the road at this one part, like just a massive pile of tires. re: "ho," that's hilarious, i don't even remember that ball, wonder what tempted someone to just name it "ho" (besides the obvious "get that ho"). though i do get reminded of summer ballin whenever i get a wiff of sharpie, and i think if i'm ever holding a tennis ball i get a subconscious urge to write a name on it. |
