What did you guys think of Heart?

Personally, I hate this episode, heh. Except for the final 2 minutes, which were pure gold. That annoyed me SO MUCH because I wanted to hate the entire thing. :P

Anyway. I know a lot of you loved it, so I'll leave you to it. Go crazy. ;)

Well, except for the final two minutes and the sex scene, it fell a bit short.

There were plotholes and the werewolves weren't scary at all and I was a bit meh about Madison.

My top concern was that it could have dug deeper into Sam's pysche. The Sam-Madison apartment scenes were kinda wasted.

We learned more about Madison than we learned about Sam. Madison showed no curiosity about Sam. It was Sam asking her the questions. I would have expected her to go,'What about you, Sam? Do you have a girlfriend? What kind of TV shows do you like to watch? Oh, you like my books, who's your favourite author?" But nothing. If I had a gorgeous guy like Sam in my apartment, I wouldn't waste my time folding my underwear and watching soap operas.

Jessica wasn't even mentioned.

And I dislike the episode ending on Dean's face. Let it end on Sam's face for a change. I wanted the camera to follow Sam as he entered the room to kill Madison.

Still, it's hard for me to dislike a Sam-centric episode completely.

It's not my fave Sam centric episode but there were some things I liked about it.

I liked the idea of a tragic love story, I adored the music used in the episode ("Look at You" by Screaming Trees & "Silent Lucidity" by Queensryche), the erm.....sex scene was smoking hot and the final shot of Dean, with a tear rolling down his cheek - perfection.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!

Thank you. That's exactly what it was. Thanks for preventing me from having to rewatch one day just to figure it out. ;)

Yanno, I actually loved this episode, but it had nothing to do with the sex scene (though my god I could watch that again and again!)

I liked the glimpses of Sam.

His shy side, his standing up to big brother side.

And the fact that Jessica wasn't mentioned? Eh, I would have been extremely put off if I were Madison, in the midst of learning about a guy, and all he mentions is his ex. Sorry, it's been done to be before, and the dude was history before he even got a kiss.

Madison was, however, not who I pictured Sam with. And I hate to sound callous, but she's not exactly ... his level.

I love Dean, I adore Dean ... but I agree that the last shot should have been Sam, though I would have still kept that single tear.

However, unlike most, I absolutely adore this episode. More so because Jared was nervous about doing the sex scene!

I really loved Heart. It had its flaws, but it worked for me.

It bothered me that the final shot was of Dean, but the scene itself was perfect. Though the idea of stopping it just as Sam entered the room to shoot Madison might have allowed that scene while refocusing back on Sam.

Madison was alright. Maybe not right for Sam, but she was someone he felt 'ready' for at that point. I think he admired her attitude and he identified with her plight so much - he so, so wanted to save her! And then he was forced to kill her. I felt so badly for everyone in this, even neighbor were wolf guy - he didn't know what was going on anymore than Madison did, though I think their subconscious could effect their choices of victim/mate behaviors.

I gotta say that the ending of this episode really devastated me when I first watched it. It felt like everyone was doomed in it, especially Sam and Dean, and it broke my heart. I was genuinely depressed for a few hours afterwards.

So was I ... and I think in part it was Madison's whole, "This is how you can save me." That tore me apart.

Poor Sam was so devastated, it's why I felt miffed that they brushed over it, like it never happened.

The problem is particually in season 2 was that Eric and the writers only give Sam what they think he should have which 9 times out of 10 is less than Dean..
Heart/Hollywood Babylon pairing is a prime example of this , a devastated Sam followed by a pointless episode with a throw away reference to that event .Sam has, does and always will deserve better..
Heart had emotional and mental implications for him that were not followed through on and it,s a shame and gutless and lazy on the writers and Eric,s part.
But really liked Madison she made Sam happy all but briefly..

I wish, that in Jus In Bello, that Henrikson had made a reference such as, "And don't think we didn't find your DNA all over the apartment of that girl you killed, Sam. Is that your MO now? Just like your dead girlfriend, love them and kill them. Didn't have time to start a fire I take it?"

That would have been soooo awesome, and redeemed EK in my book!

I think in the original sides for Folsom Prison Blues, Henrikson was talking to Sam, then it was changed to Dean. I don't know if Madison would have been brought up, though. It could have been all Dean related - I don't know as I never read the sides.

Also, how can no one mention the prints Sam and Dean leave everywhere they go! I think Sherlock Holmes would have figured them out based on Sam's shoe size alone, lol.

I liked all the little things Heart brought out for Sam - the shyness around women he likes, that kind of thing. They could have been more specific on what books Sam likes, though. What if Madison's apartment was only full of chicklit? Hee hee.

I know some people at the time took issue with how quickly Madison was condemned to death, but I just went with it. Dresden Files had just recently done a werewolf episode where the female werewolf gets some magic blocker, with Dresden hoping that it works, otherwise he'd come after her. But that's usually how these things end with werewolves now - they do get to live. So, for me, it was interesting that Madison did not get that chance.

I thought the episode was pretty good and not just because of the sex scene. The final few minutes were so heartbreaking to watch. When I heard the gun shot and the tear rolled down Dean's cheek I lost it. :(

I love this eppie. l like that Sam stood up to Dean about staying with the girl. I thought Sam and Madison had a lot of chemistry and really liked their scenes together. I liked that Madison was a strong independent woman. It was sad that she had to die, but I think she handled that with a lot of dignity. I think Emmanuelle Vaugier did a great job portraying Madison.

I know a lot of people were upset that Madison didn't look traditional werewolf, but if she did, then how would Dean recognize her?

I'm a Sam girl, but I liked where the episode ended. It made me wonder if Dean was thinking that could be him one day, with Sam in Madison's place. Of course, I hope the show never goes there.

i just have to say...i actually did like Madison. She maybe wasn't like him and there was probably no way they could ever have had a full-length relationship, but she was cool and i thought Sam kinda related to her after he started relaxing...it was cute, that evening with her was like the first it of normalcy or anything he'd had in a long time and she was just legendary to be that person. It was a way of showing that he had got over Jessica, i think, maybe partly closing that story, also giving Sam a kind of reflection, since she was a werewolf. They did it with the rugaru in season 4 too but it was better here since he knew her and he really liked her...
i loved this!
like you said his shy side was so cue...
so yeah...not the best person for Sam to spend his life with, but for the role she had to play-momentary love, reflection of his dark side, the first girl he's REALLY felt for since jessica, another step in his tragedy...which i think looking back is what this episode was really about...she was great.
