CW PR 3-26-14

'Supernatural' rises & 'The 100' Sees More Sampling
Written By Amanda Kondolojy
March 26th, 2014
via press notes:

Last night's encore airing of THE 100 series premiere drew a solid 1.6M viewers at 8pm, 0.4/2 in A18-34 and 0.5/2 in A18-49. An original episode of THE 100 airs tonight in its regular time period, 9-10pm.

At 9pm, an all new Supernatural was up +13% week to week in total viewers, steady in A18-34 (0.8/3) and A18-49 (0.9/3), and up +12% in M18-49 (0.9/3) and M18-34 (0.8/3).

Supernatural also sees major increases when delayed viewing is added to its L+SD ratings this season, averaging a 46% gain in A18-34, a 49% gain in A18-49 and a 43% jump in total viewers in Live + 7 data compared to L+SD only.

(Prelims: The 100 1.57M, 0.5; SPN 2.11, 0.9)

ETA #1:
Finals 3-25-14

The 100: 1.01 encore 1.57M, 0.5
SPN: 9.17 2.25M, 1.0 --> adjusted up

:rah :cool: Buoyed by a strong, balanced Adam Glass script and very good directing from First Timer, Misha Collins, 9.17 Mother's Little Helper adjusted up significantly in viewers and demo from the previous two episodes. I'm going to give The 100 Pilot Encore an Honorable Mention, too. :) :yay:

ETA #2
The CW ranks for this week (demo than viewers): 1) SPN 2.25M, 1.0 ; 2) Arrow 2.62M, 0.9; 3) TVD 1.73M, 0.8 -> series low demo, viewers; 4) The 100 New 2.26M, 0.7; 5) Reign 1.40M, 0.6; 6) The 100 Pilot Encore, substitute for new TO 1.57M, 0.5; 7) HoD 0.94M, 0.38) SC 0.88M,0.3; 9) TTP 0.78M, 0.3

ETA #3: DVR results for week ending 3-30-14 (includes SPN 1.17)

Low rated HoD, TTP, mid rated The 100 (0.7 to 1.2, 71%) high rated TVD (0.8 to 1.5, 88% ) and SPN (1.0 to 1.6, 60%) made ‘this week’s’ chart that ended at 55%. SC, Arrow (orig 0.9) and Reign (orig 0.6) did not. TO was preempted by an encore of The 100 pilot.

The next two weeks’ ranks will be another mixed bag of new and reruns. There was no SPN rerun ‘last week’ or the this week. Airing in SPN’s timeslot this Tuesday, 4-8-14 will be another encore (episode 3) of The 100. Additional, possibly negative news when SPN does return with a new episode on 4-15 the show will face a new AOS on ABC at 9 pm while TO will face an encore of this week’s new AOS.

HoD – a hefty increase (150%), The 100 (0.6 to 1.0, 67%), Arrow (0.8 to 1.3, 63%). New SC (0.4) and TTP (0.5) didn’t make the chart that ended at 61%

I'm almost very upset to post these poor SPN ratings:

Finals 4- 15-14
TO: 1.18 1.52M, 0.7
SPN: 9.18 1.60M, 0.7 --> season low demo, viewers

The CW had pre-eemptions again and there were reports of technical difficulties on the East Coast plus SPN went against a new Marvel's Agents of Shield which earned a 2.1 demo.

BUT if any episode deserved a season's (almost series) low it was Robbie "Must throw in some Destiel FanService" Thompson's 9.18 Meta Fiction :bang: :mad0229 !

The CW ranks for this week (demo than viewers): An incredibly low 4-way demo tie @ 0.7! 1) Arrow 2.26M,; 2) TVD 1.66M; 3) SPN 1.60M ; 4) TO 1.52M; 5) The 100 1.80M, 0.5 6) Reign 1.39M, 0.4 demo tie with 7) TTP 1.06M, 0.4; 7)TTP 1.17M, 0.4; 8) HoD 0.80M, 0.3; 9) 0.76M, 0.3

Let's hope for better ratings for 9.19

ETA: DVR results for week ending 4-20-14 (TO 1.18/SPN 1.18

TVD (0.7 to 1.4, 100%), Reign, TTP, HoD, The 100 (0.5 to 0.9, 80%,, The Originals and SPN (0.7 to 1.2, 71%) and Arrow (0.7 to 1.1, 57%) made this chart that ended at 44%. WLIIA also made it. Essentially every CW show made the chart ‘this week’ except SC (orig 0.3).

I was hoping for better increase for SPN but I think many of us were underwhelmed by Metafiction anyway.

TO -SPN CW PR 4-23-14

Last night's Supernatural saw big gains week to week across the board, rising +37% in total viewers (2.2M), +14% in A18-34 (0.8/3), and +29% in both A18-49 (0.9/3) and W18-34 (0.9/3).

Supernatural ranked #3 in the hour in A18-49, #2 in A18-34 (tie), and #3 in W18-34.

Supernatural also drew more total viewers than Fox in the hour.
Supernatural was #1 in the hour in M18-34 (tie).

THE ORIGINALS held even week to week in A18-34 (0.5/2) and in W18-34 (0.7/3).
=====================================
This CW PR was based on prelim ratings - SPN viewers adjusted down from 2.17M to 2.10M but retained the 0.9 demo which ain't great but it's far better than last week's 0.7.

Despite this CW PR's clever wording TO in both the prelims and finals received a series low 0.6 demo

Finals 4- 22-14

TO: 1.19 1.50M, 0.6 - -> Series low
SPN: 9.19 2.10M, 0.9 Back to >2M viewers

The CW ranks for this week (demo than viewers): 1) SPN 2.10M, 0.9 ; 2) TVD 1.81M, 0.8; 3) Arrow 2.19M, 0.7; 4) The 100 1.97M, 0.6 - - > demo tie with TO; 5) TO 1.50M, 0.6; 6) Reign 1.35M, 0.5; 7) SC 0.81M, 0.3 8) TTP 0.76M, 0.3; 9) HoD 0.75M, 0.3

ETA: DVR results for week ending 4-27-14 (TO 1.19/SPN 9.19

All CW scripted made this week’s chart which ended at 53%. Mid rated The 100 (0.6 to 1.0%, 67%) , high rated Arrow and TO (both 0.7 to 1.2, 71%), TVD (0.8 to 1.3, 63%), SPN (0.9 to 1.4, 56% - compare to last week’s L+7 DVR ratings report - 9.18 Metafiction @ 0.8 to 1.2 and explain how the angels and Cas add to the ratings?)

Finals 4-29-14

TO: 1.20 1.77M, 0.8
SPN: 9. 20 2.03M, 1.0

Both shows did well, and the backdoor Bloodlines Spinoff had lots of 'eyes' on it since the demo rose back up to 1.0. Did it perform well enough to get a series order? I don't know. Last season's TVD 'planted pilot' for The Originals also received a 1.0 in demo and The CW issued a PR saying TO had a series order that same day. This year The CW has two spinoffs - Flash, which seems to 100% likely pickup and Bloodlines, that has never been a sure thing. For now, I'm just happy that 920 didn't get an 0.6 :D

The CW issued a PR earlier today:

CW PR 4-30-2014

The CW Delivers Best Tuesday In Eight Weeks
Written By Sara Bibel
April 30th, 2014
via press note:

Last night's THE ORIGINALS had its most watched episode (1.66M) in seven weeks (since 3/11/14), and was up 11% week to week in total viewers. THE ORIGINALS also rose in all key demos, up 17% in A18-34 (0.7/3), up 43% in W18-34 (1.0/4) and up 33% in A18-49 (0.8/2).THE ORIGINALS tied Fox in the hour in A18-49.

The "Bloodlines" episode of Supernatural had its best A18-34 (0.9/3) rating and A18-49 (1.0/3) since 3/25, and its best W18-34 (1.0/3) in eight weeks (since 3/4/14).

Supernatural was up 13% in A18-34 (0.9/3) up 11% in W18-34 (1.0/3) and up 11% in A18-49 (1.0/3) week to week. It was even with last week in total viewers (2.1M).

Supernatural ranked #3 in the hour in A18-34 and in W18-34.
The CW had its best Tuesday night in 8 weeks (since 3/4/14) in all key demos and its best P2+ delivery in 5 weeks (since 3/25/14).

The CW ranks for this week (demo than viewers): 1) SPN 2.03M, 1.0 ; 2) Arrow 2.31M, 0.8; 3) TVD 1.84M, 0.8; 4) TO 1.77M, 0.8 - -> 3 –way demo tie at 0.8 ; 5) The 100 1.88M, 0.6; 6) Reign 1.40M, 0.5; 7)TTP 0.93M, 0.4; 8) SC 0.83M, 0.3; 9) HoD 0.66M, 0.2

ETA: DVR results for week ending 5-4 -14 (TO 1.20/SPN 9.20

Low performer HoD, mid performer Reign and high performers TVD (0.8 to 1.4, 75%) and TO (0.8 to 1.3, 63%) were only CW shows to make the chart this week that ended at 56%. SPN (orig 1.0) would have to increase by 0.6, 60% to make this chart. Arrow, also 0.8, and The 100, 0.6, were also absent.

Posters asked about results for The 100 (+50%), Arrow (+50%) and SPN (+40%, 1.0 to 1.4). So with DVR results added in TVD and SPN tied in the L+7’s at 1.4 final demo.

Finals 5- 6-14

TO: 1.21 1.44M, 0.6
SPN: 9.21 1.59M, 0.8

Subpar results for both shows; The CW was preempted in Chicago and per tvbythenumbers TV viewership was down 8% Tuesday night for some reason. Most shows between 8-10 pm were down.

The CW ranks for this week (demo than viewers): 1) Arrow 2.33M, 0.8; 2) SPN 1.59M, 0.8 - -> demo tie with Arrow 3) TVD 1.50M, 0.7 - -> series low with Thursday preemptions; 4) The 100 1.64M, 0.6 - -> demo tie with TO 5) TO 1.44M, 0.6 with Tuesday preemptions; 6) Reign 1.34M, 0.5; 7)TTP 1.01M, 0.4 Series Finale; 8) SC 0.87, 0.3; 9) HoD 0.76M,0.3

ETA: DVR results for week ending 5-11-14 (TO 1.21/SPN 9.21

Only HoD, TO (0.6 to 1.1, 83%) and TVD (0.7 to 1.1, 54%) made the top 25 ‘this’ week and the chart ended at 54%, It was a poor week for The CW as far as increased performance in delayed viewing and a lackluster week overall with no show getting higher than 0.8 in demo (SPN & Arrow).

Inspired by others who had asked and been answered I asked for increases for SPN and Arrow and TVBTN’s Sara (who reported the DVR data) answered – both SPN and Arrow increased 50% from 0.8 to 1.2. (So I can fill in my Excel chart for SPN at least - :rolleyes:).

So far this season, SPN has never NOT made the 'top 25' when the Live + Same Day' demo has been 0.9 or lower and this 'factoid' may be significant - the MoC/Dark Dean storyline may not be as much of a 'hit' with Nielsen viewers than the SPN PTBs 'think'. Dark Dean went all :fire and killed Abaddon in this episode for Chuck's sake; even with lowered live ratings due to preemptions I would have expected 9.21 "King of the Damned' to get at least an 0.5 increase and make the chart.

CW 2014 Pilot Pickups

No Bloodlines. No Identity
Deadline stressed that 2 WB shows were picked up (The Flash, iZombie) and 2 CBS shows (JtV, The Messengers)
Mixed feelings about no BL pickup. I hope SPN doesn’t lose Dabb anyway.

The CW also renewed The 100, HoD and most disgustingly true bottom feeder, B&TB although per the Deadline article none are expected to receive 22 episodes which sense as The 100 is much more suited to a limited season and neither the ratings-challenged HoD or B&TB have earned full season orders. Though that may just be speculation on Deadlines' part and we won't know more details until later possibly when The CW Fall Schedule is released sometime next week.

ETA #1: Word from several unofficial sources is that S3 B&TB is 13 episodes.

CW 2014 Cancellation

TCD, SC and TTP have been cancelled.

Before today's "Finals" are released I want to make a few comments after adding this quote from TVbythenumbers:

"On the CW, the season finale of The Originals garnered a 0.9, up 50 percent from last week's series low 0.6 adults 18-49 rating. Supernatural notched a 0.9, up 13 percent from last week's 0.8 adults 18-49 rating. However, since the CW was pre-empted for baseball in New York City and Hartford, these numbers are likely to be adjusted in the finals."

TVBythenumbers posters are also reporting smaller area pre-emptions in locations such as Rochester, NY and some areas of Georgia and maybe even others that have no regular tvbtn posters.

My point is NYC is the #1 TV market and even without taking other cumulative preemptions into account the 'prelim' results should have been least 1.0 if the MOC and Angel War heavy storyline was a much of hit as the 'bro friendly' and brothers Winchesters as both friends, family and hunting partners back 'half' of S8 was. Take 9.18 (Metafiction) for example - I'm not aware of any preememptions but the episode was against a new "Agents of Shield" - the Final was a season low of 0.7 - but you would think if Cas & the angel storyline was a "hit" it would be reflected in the huge L+7 ratings for deferred viewing - nope, only increased to 1.2 demo.

Again last week's 9.21 featuring not only fan favorites Crowley and Abaddon but was also Dean/MOC heavy - this episode was preeempted Chicago (#3 TV Market) but CW shows aired later - yet still the episode got only 0.8 in final demo - the DVR results won't be available for a few weeks that's if tvbtn posts them - sometimes the site continues to post results and sometimes it doesn't.

By contrast the final 3 eps of 'bro-friendly' S8 were 0.9,1.0,1.0 - granted I didn't note as many preemptions last season as this season - but this season has had 2 - 1.2's, and 5-1.1's several in late winter/early spring and S8's high was only 1.0. A casual look at the first 10 eps in crude comparison to 9.11 - 9.22 would suggest that Gadreel!Sam was more a fan fave 'character' than 'MOC'Dean & the 'Angel War'. It's also interesting to note that most of the TVBTN posters who really liked 922 I recognize as EDGs/MytharcforDean-anti- brobond-ers and Cas/Destiel fans from other boards.

ETA #1:
Finals 5-13-14

TO: Season 1 Finale 1.22 1.76M, 0.8
SPN: 9.22 1.74M, 0.8

:rah A very good TO Season 1 finale tied the subpar SPN Penultimate and slightly edged out SPN in viewers too - TO hasn't tied SPN since 4-15-14 when the 4 top CW shows all received 0.7 in demo. SPN has been beating TO since both shows' winter return.

The CW ranks for this week (demo than viewers): 1) Arrow 2.37M, 0.9; 2) TO 1.76M, 0.8 --> 3 way demo tie with SPN and TVD; 3) SPN 1.74M, 0.8 ; 4) TVD 1.61M, 0.8; 5) The 100 1.73M, 0.6; 6) Reign 1.24M, 0.4; 7) HoD 0.88M, 0.4; 8) SC Series Finale 0.83M, 0.3

TO/SPN had multiple, major preemptions and TVD/Reign were preempted in Chicago. All currently airing shows except SPN and The 100 were season/series finales.

ETA: DVR results for week ending 5-18-14 (TO 1.22/SPN 9.22

Low performing HoD and Reign season finales, mid performing The 100 (0.6 to 0.9, 50%), high performing TVD season finale (0.8 to 1.4, 75%) and the ‘penultimate episode’ of SPN (0.8 to 1.2, 50%) made this week’s chart that ended at 50%. The season finales of TO (orig 0.8) and Arrow (orig 0.9) did not make the top 25 ‘this week’.

Finals 5-20-14

SPN r: 9.22 encore 1.11M, 0.5 (very good!)
SPN Season 9 Finale: 9.23 2.30M, 1.1 !!!

Like it/Love it/Hate it, Supernatural’s S9 finale ‘beat’ all The CW finales this season with the closest being Arrow S2 Finale @ 0.9 final demo TVD 5th and TO 1st season finales tied at 0.8.

One factor might have been Supernatural was the only 'scripted programming' between 8 and 10 pm – everything else was 'Reality Programming’ so that might have enticed some viewers of the CBS NCIS’s and ABC’s AoS totune in to get their scripted show fix.

The finale was preempted in at least Chicago and Rochester, NY and it did not drop in demo and actually slightly increased in viewers. Sigh.

The Finale did get a little better on rewatch when I ff’ed through all the boring Angel crap.

The S9 premiere reruns next Tuesday, 5/27 and last night’s episode 1.10 of The 100 got 1.46M, 0.5 demo, Next week The 100 is proceeded by an Arrow rerun and that pattern will continue for the following two weeks until all The 100’s 13 episode S1 order is completed. The 100 returns for S2 some time in October with the rest of The CW's Fall schedule. Starting June 3 SPN’s reruns lead-out a new Reality Show “Famous in 12”.

ETA: DVR results for week ending 5-25-14 including only results for The 100 and the SPN season 9 finale

With the lesser number of ‘new episodes’ in this last regular broadcast week ("last broadcast week" means we won't have L+7 DVR data for the remaining both The 100 and B&TB eps) The 100 (0.5 to 0.9, 80%) and SPN (1.2 to 1.5, 25%) made Chart #1 “Largest 18-49 Ratings Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows” (Note that SPN’s ‘final demo’ was changed from 1.1 to 1.2 – this is because of more data available for the crunching goes into producing the figures for the “L+7’s” and because the ‘DVR data’ uses more ‘significant figures’ in its data).

Both shows also made ‘Chart 2) – the usual place for CW ‘data’ Largest 18-49 Percentage Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows” because this chart ended at 19% AND ‘Chart 3’ - Largest Viewership Increase From DVR Viewing for Broadcast TV Shows – with The 100 viewers increasing from 1.460M to 2.524M, 73% and SPN increasing from 2.359M to 3.103M, 32%. (Note 2: The “final data” for SPN increased from “L+SD” figures of 2.30 to 2.359M, likely partially accounting for the ‘demo increase’ from 1.1 to 1.2. A similar alteration happened in the S6 finale episodes that were also preempted in some big regions with the ‘final L+SD’ reported for 6.21/6.22 0.8 each but the L+7’s were adjusted to a final demo of 0.9.

(Personal commentary: I am far from the only SPN 'saying' the S9 finale was a 'hot mess' - Sam, some Dean and "bro fans" are saying the same thing - about the only 'happy' fans are the "MytharcforDean' fans and some, but not all Cas/Destiel fans (they were hoping than "Destiel would be canon" from both Dean and Cas). But I think the "1.1 L+SD" was no more meaningful than the "1.2 L+SD" that the less than well received 9.12 Sharp Teeth got - limited competition; 9.12 was against the SOTU address and 9.23 was against all reality show lineup)

SPN also ended up the “DVR season” with an average of 1.0 to 1.5 for 50%; TVD – also 1.0 added an average of 0.7 for 70% and Arrow, 0.9 to 1.4, 56%, The Originals 0.9 to 1.5, 67%. (This is just the top 4 shows, the actual list has all The CW shows on it. So TVD and SPN tied at #1 (1.0) and TO and Arrow tied at #2 (0.9). TVD was #1 in added DVR, SPN and TO tied at #2 and Arrow was 3rd.

Revised CW schedule - Summer 2014

The CW has made some changes to it's summer schedule adding ANTM Cycle 21 to premiere August 22, 2014 at 9:00 rather than August 1 as I had originally assumed.

HoD's Rachel Bilson is pregnant and the S4 order stands at 10 rather than 13 as B&TB S3 is getting. RB's pregnancy and presumably reduced episode order may be why ANTM's cycle premiere has been (I assume) delayed. Reign reruns will fill in Fridays until ANTM premieres.

'The 100' repeats appear to replace Arrow repeats on Wednesdays @10 pm. Wednesday, July 9, an "I heart radio pool party" is scheduled in place of Arrow/The 100 reruns. There's still no formal Thursday schedule but The CW has been rerunning TVD and TO. Per Futon Critic Arrow repeats are still scheduled thru 6-25 (that's as far as I checked) and The 100 season 1 will start repeats on Wednesday, June 18.
