WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 22
8:00-9:00pm ARROW
9:00-10:00pm THE 100 (Season Premiere)

(My note: It's great SPN is getting a "retrospective episode" this year even if it gets low ratings. The show deserves it - I just hope it presents a balanced view of both brothers and does not obviously fawn over Dean as EK did and now JC seem to doing.

The 100's showrunner is being very secretive S2's episode count, saying only it's between more than 13 and less than 22. With a Oct 22 premiere date, skipping Thanksgiving week, ending the Fall season on Dec 10, resuming Jan 14-ish 2015 and running straight thru to March 11-ish that would be ~ 15-16 episodes allowing The Messengers to take The 100's post Arrow slot March 18 and run thru mid June like The 100 this year. But I have no idea if that's The CW's plan. )

The CW ganks Seed and Backpackers

No big surprise - both half hour comedies premiered last Monday at 0.2 each in demo and this Monday The CW scheduled was changed to air both at 9 pm/9:30 after a new and repeat of WLIIA (both received 0.6 demo) and Seed got another 0.2 and Backpackers, 0.1.

Guess these results were even too pathetic for even The CW :D .

ANTM Cycle 21 Schedule change

(ANTM will premiere Cycle 21 of new episodes Monday, August 18 at 9 pm rather than Friday August 22. There will be multiple encores. My guess is ANTM ‘Monday’ will be replace Seed & Backpackers)

Well, the semi-good news is while AOS’s premiere adjusted up 0.2 (from 1.9 to 2.1) on The CW (preempted again in Chicago) Arrow and SPN finale repeats remained steady at 0.3. Also @ 9 NCIS: NO premiere , 2.5, down 0.5 is down from NCIS:LA’s 3.0 premiere last year. NCIS @ 8 pm is also down 0.7 from last year (3.6 vs 2.9). Of course, MAOS is way down but seems to have stabilized.
I’ll edit this post and add next week’s 9-30 2014 MAOS/NCIS:NO results and the following week is the SPN S10 premiere

9-30-14 results

CW 8-10 “I <3 … special”, part 2 099M, 0.4

NCIS/ NCIS NO 1.02 2.6, 2.3 respectively - both down from season/series premieres

MAOS 2.02 5.05M, 1.8 – down 0.3 from S2 premiere. AOS had 2 half hour premiere lead-ins, Selfie and Manhattan Love Store at 1.6, 1.5 in the finals, respectively. Last week, AOS’s lead-in was the one hour DWTS finale at 1.7.

First two CW premieres of the 2014-2015 broadcast season - figure I'd post them now and start the "weekly ranks post" at the end of next week when more shows have premiered.

10-2-14
TVD S6 Premiere 1.81M, 0.9 --> down 0.3 from it’s S5 premiere of 1.2, but up 0.1 from it’s S5 finale in which both TVD S5/Reign S1 were preempted

Reign S2 Premiere 1.01M, 0.4 – -> down 0.4 (50%) from series premiere 0.8, even with S1 finale. Not good.

Makes me concerned about TO and SPN premieres next week because both face a lot of new competition

ETA L+7 day A18-49 increases for week ending 10-5-14
TVD S6 Premiere increased from 0.9 to 1.6 (78%); Reign S2 Premiere increased from 0.4 to 0.7 (75%)

TO S2 Premiere 1.36M, 0.7 -- > yes, it’s down but still very good for its competitive new night

SPN S10 retrospective 1.07M, 0.5 Recap also did very well in its time period

Based on prelims, The CW issued a TO premiere - SPN Special CW PR

'The Originals' helps deliver The CW's best Monday in A18-49 in two years
Written By Amanda Kondolojy
October 7th, 2014
via press notes:

Last night's season premiere of THE ORIGINALS in its new time period held steady from last season's finale in A18-34 (0.7/2) and in W18-34 (1.0/4).
On its new night and time leading off Monday, THE ORIGINALS delivered big year to year improvements in line with the networks strategy to grow Monday night. THE ORIGINALS delivered a huge 35% improvement over last season's time period average in total viewers, and more than doubled the time period performance in A18-34 (+133%) and W18-34 (+150%) and boosted the time period average by 75% in A18-49.

THE ORIGINALS delivered The CW's best Monday 8-9pm time period performance in W18-34 in a year and a half (2/4/13) and in almost three years in W18-49 (1/30/12).

Combined with the Supernatural retrospective special episode, this was The CW's best Monday night in A18-49 in almost two years (12/17/12 - Gossip Girl finale), and best Monday night in W18-34 since 2/11/13.

THE ORIGINALS also is expected to see huge increases in DVR viewing - based on the tremendous gains it had last season, THE ORIGINALS is projected to see 52% gains in total viewers, a 66% increase in A18-34, a 73% increase in W18-34 and a 64% increase in A18-49.

The Supernatural retrospective special delivered 1.07M viewers, 0.5/2 in A18-34 and 0.5/1 in A18-49.

(Of special note, the SPN Special got better ratings than the Reign S2 premiere did)

Finals 10-7-14

The Flash Series Premiere: 1.01 4.79M, 1.9 - -> adjusted up You’re reading that correctly – 1.9!
SPN S10 Premiere : 10.01 2.48M, 1.1M - ->adjusted down :lesigh:

I was expecting for SPN to perform worse against AOS at ‘our first meet-cute’ – I wouldn’t necessarily count on SPN’s continued good fortune . TF did “superfantastic” as The CW squeed about in this new CW PR

'The Flash' is The CW's Most Watched Series Premiere in 5 years
Written By Amanda Kondolojy
October 8th, 2014
via press release:

THE FLASH zoomed out of the gates last night - Tuesday night’s series debut of THE FLASH was The CW’s most watched (4.54M) and highest-rated A18-49 (1.8/6) series premiere in more than five years, since THE Vampire Diaries bowed in 2009.

THE FLASH is The CW’s third most watched and highest rated series premiere ever in A18-49, behind only THE Vampire Diaries and 90210.

THE FLASH was The CW’s most watched telecast, of any CW show, since the series premiere of TVD on 9/10/09.

In the Tuesday 8-9pm hour, THE FLASH was second in A18-34, behind only NBC, and beat ABC and Fox in total viewers. For the night (8-10pm) The CW outrated both ABC and Fox in A18-34 and A18-49.

THE FLASH was The CW’s most watched show in its time period in more than seven years (GILMORE GIRLS series finale on 5/15/07) and highest rated in A18-49 in more than six years (90210 on 9/2/08). THE FLASH ties the network’s best ever rating in the time period in M18-34 (1.8/7, GILMORE GIRLS on 5/15/07).
Last night was The CW’s most watched night (3.66M) in more than four years (5/12/10), and its highest rated night in A18-49 (1.5/5) in more than four years also (9/9/10). It was the best A18-34 night (1.3/5) for the network since 10/11/12.

This was The CW’s most watched (3.66M) Tuesday night in more than six years (90210 premiere on 9/2/08) and highest-rated in A18-49 (1.5/5) since 9/9/09. It’s the network’s best Tuesday night ever in M18-49 (1.7/6) and ties the net’s best Tuesday ever in M18-34 (1.6/6).

(I just wish the SPN Premiere had benefited a little more from The Flash's high demo and viewers but SPN has it's core audience and I assume many fans who checked out The Flash premiere are not necessarily just CW fans, many are comic book fans.)

Arrow S3 Premiere: 2.81M, 1.0 up 0.1 from last year premiere
The Flash Premiere rerun 2.09M, 0.6

Arrow S3 Press Release

'Arrow' Still on Target, Premiering Up Over Last Season

Written By Amanda Kondolojy
October 9th, 2014
via press release:

The third season premiere of Arrow hit the mark, up +13% in A18-34 (0.9/4), +11% in A18-49 (1.0/3), and +2% in total viewers (2.79M) versus last season’s debut.

Among men, Arrow was up +25% versus last year’s premiere in M18-34 (1.0/4)
This was Arrow’s most watched and highest-rated episode in A18-49 and A18-34 since 2/5/14.

Arrow also soared over last season’s finale on 5/14/14, +18% in total viewers, +29% in A18-34, and +11% in A18-49.
Arrow outrated NBC in the hour in A18-34, and was #2 in the hour among M18-34.

An encore presentation of the premiere episode of THE FLASH averaged 2.09M viewers, 0.6/2 in A18-34, 0.6/2 in A18-49, and 0.7/3 in M18-34. THE FLASH encore outrated FOX in the hour in M18-34.
Last night was The CW’s most-watched (2.44M) and highest-rated (0.7/3 in A18-34, 0.8/3 in A18-49) Wednesday night since 3/26/14.

Looking at the average Live + 7 Day delayed viewing for ARROW last season, last night’s premiere is estimated to gain +47% in total viewers, +46% in A18-34, and +56% in A18-49, versus L+SD ratings.

=======================================
With two season premieres left to air (Jane the Virgin and The 100) the ‘rank’ of season premieres to date by demo is 1) The Flash 1.9, 2) SPN 1.1 3) Arrow 1.0, 4) TVD 0.9 5) TO (new night) 0.7, 6) Reign 0.4

I'll eat my socks if either JtV or The 100 premieres better than The Flash :D

The slightly bad rating news is that Nielsen Ratings system admitted a problem with reporting some data from March to October 9; Thursday's finals are the correct ones although there will be maybe minor changes to The CW finals for that period - not enough to affect the renew/cancel decisions.

My next post will contain the Thursday CW data including the weekly ranks. I will again not be reporting Fridays unless a scripted show is sent there or 'starts the season there' (HoD/B&TB?). I have no idea if there will be any schedule changes in the next month.

TVD 1.67M, 0.8 --> adjusted up
Reign 1.09M, 0.4

Next week I will go back to the usual format of just editing and reporting the weekly ranks after each "Tuesday Finals" report, with the exception of still reporting any The Flash or SPN Press Releases - UNLESS SPN is moved for some reason.

The CW ranks for this week (demo than viewers) 1) The Flash 4.79M, 1.9; 2) SPN 2.48M, 1.1 ; 3) Arrow 2.81M, 1.0; 4) TVD 1.67M, 0.8; 5) TO 1.36M, 0.7; 6) Reign 1.09M, 0.4

If there any significant changes to the Mon - Wednesday ratings data I'll edit this post.

ETA #1: Yesterday (10-16) "Nielsen" released its revised ratings for 10-6 to 10-8, 2014 (Thursdays 10-9's ratings were not affected because Nielsen had applied the 'fix'). For The CW all demos remained the same, the viewer totals just adjusted up slightly. 1) The Flash 4.83M 2) SPN 2.50M 3) Arrow 2.83M 5) TO 1.37M.

On ABC MAOS at 9 pm adjusted down from 1.7 to 1.6

ETA #2:From TVMediaInsight
L+3's for The Flash and SPN premieres (somewhat odd that they weren't posted on TVBTN)

The Flash grew 33% to 6.42million in viewers
31% to a 2.1rtg in adults 18-34
32% to a 2.5rtg in adults 18-49

SPN grew 31% to 3.29mil in viewers
26% to 1.34rtg in adults 18-34
35% to a 1.45rtg in adults 18-49

ETA #3: L+7 DVR results for week ending 10-12-14
TVD – 0.8 to 1.5, 88%, Reign 04 to 0.7, 75%, TO 0.7 to 1.2, 71% - chart ended at 58%

ETA #4

Complete L+7 CW DVR results as relayed by TVBTN poster 'mswood666' obtained via TVMediaInsite (Marc Berman site) frequent posted 'sonofabronx':

Demo 18-49 (ties are listing in alphabetical order)
1. The Flash 2.6
2. Supernatural 1.6 (~45%)
3 (Tied) Arrow 1.5
3 (Tied) The Vampire Diaries 1.5
5. The Originals 1.2
6. Flash (rerun) .9
7. Whose Line Is It Anyways .8
8 (tied) Reign .7
8 (Tied) Supernatural Retrospective .7
10. America's Next Top Model .6
11. Whose Line Is it Anyways (Encore) .5

(so SPN and Arrow performed even better than I guestimated)

P2 (Total Viewers 2 an older)
1. The Flash 6.829
2. Arrow 4.069
3. Supernatural 3.562
4. The Vampire Diaries 2.942

Jane the Virgin CW PR

'Jane the Virgin' Blesses The CW with Best Monday Night Ratings in Two Years
Written By Sara Bibel
October 14th, 2014
From CW:

Last night’s series premiere of the most critically-acclaimed new show of the season, JANE THE VIRGIN, drew 1.63M viewers, building on its lead-in by 22% and delivering the most viewers in its time period (Monday 9-10pm) in more than two and a half years, since 2/23/12.

JANE delivered the best A18-49 (0.6/2) and W18-49 (0.7/2) ratings in its time period since in nearly two years (12/17/12, GOSSP GIRL series finale).JANE also doubled last season’s time period average in A18-49 (+100% 0.6/2), and W18-34 (+100% 0.6/2), and nearly doubled it in total viewers (+90%).

ORIGINALS held virtually even from its season premiere last week, remaining
flat in A18-49 (0.7/2).

With one of the network’s main goals this season to build Mondays, the new lineup of THE ORIGINALS and JANE THE VIRGIN combined to give The CW its most watched Monday night (1.48M) in nearly three years (12/5/11), and its best A18-49 in nearly two years (12/17/12).

Finals 10-14-14

TF: 1.02 4.27M, 1.7
SPN:10.02 2.13M, 1.0

The Flash is still running fast :D for The CW although it's down 0.2 from the series premiere, not a bad drop, other series or season premieres on other network have dipped much more and unfortunately SPN dropped 0.1 from its season premiere too (on an episode than many online fans feel was better than the premiere.)

Another The Flash praise/SPN mention CW PR was issued:

'The Flash' Wins Its Hour in Men 18-34 & Improves Time Period by 86 Percent in Viewers Versus Year-Ago
Written By Sara Bibel
October 15th, 2014
via press release:

The second episode of THE FLASH kept going at full speed last night, #1 in the hour among M18-34 (1.5/6), #2 in the hour in A18-34 (1.3/5), and #3 in the hour in both A18-49 (1.6/5) and in total viewers (4.12M).

With increased competition including an original episode of "The Voice" on NBC and the ALCS, THE FLASH retained better than 80% of its record-setting premiere numbers, holding 86% in total viewers, 81% in A18-34, and 84% A18-49.

Behind only last week's series premiere, THE FLASH was the second most watched show in its time period (Tuesday 8-9pm) in six years (9/2/08), and the highest rated show in A18-49 in six years (10/28/08) and highest rated in A18-34 in more than three years (2/1/11).

Versus this same week last year, THE FLASH improved its time period performance by +86% in total viewers, +18% in A18-34, +150% in M18-34, and +45% in A18-49.
THE FLASH also grew at the half hour mark across all breaks: +5% in total viewers, +8% in A18-34, +6% in A18-49.

Supernatural also held up well versus last week's 10th season premiere, +11% in W18-34 (1.0/3) and +10% in W18-49 (1.1/1)

For the night, The CW was #3 in A18-34 (1.1/4), and beat Fox in A18-49 (1.3/4) and total viewers (3.16M).

(Odd that the PR's don't mention that SPN is against MAOS but the prelim release said The Flash tied MAOS in demo - both shows adjusted up 0.1 to tie in the finals, too, at 1.7 A18-49 each.)

ETA #1:
The CW ranks for this week (demo than viewers): 1) Flash 4.27M, 1.7; 2) SPN 2.13M, 1.0; [3) TVD 1.83M, 0.9; 4) Arrow 2.32M, 0.8; 5) TO 1.29M, 0.7; 6) JtV 1.61M, 0.6; 7) Reign 1.27M, 0.4

TVMediaInsight's Mark Berman-the-SPN-Hater put SPN in his "losers" category this week - The CW's #2 show for the second full CW week. :fight:
