Just a pre-Tuesday, 10-21 and Wednesday 10-22-14 ratings comment: The 2014 World Series on Fox airs Game 1 tonight, Game 2 Wednesday (Game 3 Friday, Game 4 Saturday) and other Games are still tbd but usually IIRC the WS schedules Games for Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday. From a glance at last year's ratings for Tuesday 10-22 and Wednesday 10-23-2013, the ratings didn't seem to be impacted much the early games but Arrow was definitely affected by the second week WS game (game 6, 7?).

So if ratings fall suspiciously tonight (reported tomorrow) or Wednesday (reported Thursday) we'll have the WS to 'blame' (and again 'next week' if the WS goes past Game 4). Major sporting events tend to a least a small impact on the ratings of 'male skewing' or close to male skewing shows like The Flash/SPN/Arrow/The 100 because Nielsen viewers tend to watch the games 'live' and 'record' other shows.

CW schedule week ending 11-7-2014

Note that in lieu of The Flash 1.05 and SPN 10.05 (200th episode) The CW is re-airing TF 1.03 and the Supernatural Retrospective, VERY likely because of the US Mid Term election day coverage. All other CW programming for the week is new. SPN 10.05 (and TF 1.05) has been rescheduled for 11/11/2014.

CW PR for TO-JtV Monday 10-20-2014

'Jane the Virgin' Grows From Series Premiere & 'The Originals' Increases Week to Week in Total Viewers

Written By Amanda Kondolojy
October 21st, 2014
via press notes:

A note that The CW was preempted for NFL coverage in Houston last night, so these numbers are preliminary:

THE ORIGINALS saw increases week to week in total viewers and in women, up +29% among W18-34 (0.9/3), up +13% in W18-49 (0.9/3), and up +20% in total viewers (1.54M).

JANE THE VIRGIN also grew from its series premiere last week, rising +17% in A18-49 (0.7/2) and +13% in W18-49 (0.9/2), and gaining +9% in total viewers (1.75M). It held steady in A18-34 (0.5/2) and in W18-34 (0.7/2).

Versus this same week last season, JANE THE VIRGIN improved its time period by +67% in A18-34, +40% in W18-34, +80% in W18-49, +94% in total viewers, and more than doubled the time period performance in A18-49, gaining +133%.

The CW's Monday night is showing huge gains over last season, +63% in total viewers (1.65M), +67% in A18-34 (0.6/2), +60% in W18-34 (0.8/3), +75% in A18-49 (0.7/2), and up +80% in W18-49 (0.9/3).

In last week's Live + 3 Day ratings, THE ORIGINALS grew by +45% in total viewers, +54% in A18-34, +72% in W18-34, +56% in A18-49, and +69% in W18-49. JANE THE VIRGIN also saw sizable gains, jumping +29% in total viewers, +38% in A18-34, +43% in W18-34, +38% in A18-49, and +39% in W18-49.

(My note: From 4+ years of reporting on CW ratings I can say 'preemptions' are odd beasts, sometimes affecting only viewer totals and not affecting demos. Sometimes (rarely) the 8 pm show even increases in viewers and/or demo and the 9 pm show decreases. Anyway The CW is very pleased with their Mondays at this time :) even though I don't watch JtV. )

ETA #1:
TO 1.27M, 0.6 - -> adj down 0.1 from prelims (CW preempted in Houston )
JtV 1.36M, 0.5 - -> adj down 0.2! from prelims

Both TO and JtV dropped demo in the finals after normal adjustments and adjustments for the Houston preemption were subtracted.

This adjustment makes the The Flash and Jane the Virgin Get Full Season Orders CW announcement strange; a full season pickup for TF is a no brainer but JtV after only 2 episodes, the second one only 0.1 over Reign (that IMO was also given a full season order too soon.) The CW already 'gave' The Flash and JtV an extra 3 episodes before their seasons even premiered ... couldn't The CW (with the extra episode 'cushion') have waited until JTV has aired least 5 episodes and had ratings to examine before making this decision?

Prelims for The Flash and SPN are out along with a CW PR. My note (along with Mark Berman and TVBTN - The CW not only had to contend with Game 1 of the Baseball's World Series Game 1, The CW was also preempted in Houston which caused the TO/JtV demos and viewers to drop. So it would be outstanding if the prelim A18-49 demos even hold (TF 1.4,SPN 0.9, even AOS was affected receiving a prelim of 1.5. ABC also was preempted in Pittsburgh but I don't know how big the "market" is - I vaguely remember Houston at #7).

TF and SPN CW PR 10-22-2014

FROM THE CW

Facing Game One of the World Series, THE FLASH held steady week to week in A18-34 (1.3/5), and was up +10% in W18-34 (1.1/4), and dipped only -7% among M18-34 (1.4/5).

THE FLASH beat ABC in the hour in all 18-34 demos, finishing #3 in the hour in M18-34, and tied for #3 in A18-34. THE FLASH also beat ABC in W18-34 in the hour.

Versus this same week last year, THE FLASH improved its time period by +52% in total viewers (3.38M), +18% in A18-34, and +27% in A18-49 (1.4/4).

At 9pm, SUPERNATURAL also remained virtually even week to week, matching last week in total viewers (2.1M) and M18-34 (0.8/3), and off just a tenth in A18-34 (0.8/3) and A18-49 (0.9/3).

The CW beat ABC for the night in A18-34 (1.0/4) and in W18-34 (1.0/3).
Year to year, The CW’s Tuesday night is up +20% in total viewers (2.74M), +25% in A18-34 (1.0/4), and up +10% in A18-49 (1.1/3).

Last week, THE FLASH saw gains of +33% in total viewers in L+3 Day viewing over L+SD, +39% in A18-34, and +35% in A18-49. SUPERNATURAL jumped by +35% in total viewers, +27% in A18-34, and by +34% in A18-49 in L+3 vs. L+SD ratings.

ETA #1:

Finals 10-21-14

TF: 1.03 3.59M, 1.5 --> adjusted up
SPN: 10.03 2.08M, 0.9

:lesigh: Because TF adjusted up in spite of pre-emptions and WS but SPN didn't. Oh well, it could have been worse had SPN adjusted down.

ETA #2:
L+3 The Flash and SPN

MORE FROM THE CW
With Live +3 Day Nielsen data, THE FLASH sped to 5.22 million viewers in week 3, adding almost 1.7 million viewers to its Live + Same Day total, a gain of +46%.

THE FLASH also jumped +31% in A18-34 (1.3 to 1.7), +27% in M18-34 (1.5 to 1.9), +33% in A18-49 (1.5 to 2.0), and +39% in M18-49 (1.8 to 2.5).

These were the biggest percentage increases of the season in delayed viewing for THE FLASH in total viewers and in A18-49 and M18-49.

Week 3 of SUPERNATURAL also scored big gains in delayed viewing, growing +35% in total viewers (2.08M to 2.8M), +38% in A18-34 (0.8 to 1.1), +38% in M18-34 (0.8 to 1.1), +44% in A18-49 (0.9 to 1.3) and +50% in M18-49 (0.8 to 1.2).

SUPERNATURAL had its biggest L+3 gains of the season in A18-34, M18-34, A18-49, and M18-49, and matched last week’s increase in total viewers.

(In case TF/SPN don't make the top 25 reported by TVBTN I have some data).

Arrow-The 100 S2 premiere CW PR 10-23-2014

FROM THE CW

Facing Game 2 of the World Series, ARROW hit the mark last night, scoring its best rating in M18-34 (1.1/5) since 1/29/14, and rising +29% week to week in A18-34 (0.9/4), matching its season premiere.

ARROW also rose +12% week to week in A18-49 (0.9/3), +8% in total viewers (2.5M), and jumped +40% in W18-34 (0.7/3

ARROW was #2 (tie) in the hour in M18-34 and beat NBC in the hour in A18-34.
Versus this same week last season, ARROW was up +12% in A18-34 and +38% in M18-34, and even in A18-49.

The season premiere of THE 100 returned in line with last season’s finale, matching its A18-49 rating (0.5/1) and off slightly in total viewers (1.6M).

Week to week, The CW’s Wednesday night was up +20% in A18-34 (0.6/2), up +2% in total viewers (2M), and even in A18-49 (0.7/2)

(My note: I didn’t read about any CW preemptions Wednesday. Also, Tuesday’s The Flash adjusted up (though TF was still ‘down’ from its premiere ratings) in spite of WS and preemption , so Arrow’s Finals may adjust up, too. )

ETA #1:

10/22 Finals
Arrow 2.55M, 0.9
The 100 S2 Premiere 1.54M, 0.5

So Arrow tied SPN's demo this week but had more viewers tentatively making 1)TF 2)Arrow 3)SPN by demo than viewers. TVD has yet to air and has not exceeded 0.9 or 2M viewers but there's also no WS and no new Bones on tonight so TVD could get 1.0+ in demo.

Because there were quite a few CW PR's this week I'm going to post the 'weekly ranks' on it's own page and that will make adding to DVR results in a few weeks easier to post and read.

For CW reporting period ending 10-23-14 The CW ranks for this week (demo than viewers): 1) Flash 3.59M, 1.5; 2) Arrow 2.55M, 0.9; 3) SPN 2.08M, 0.9 - -> demo tie; 4) TVD 1.66M, 0.8; 5) TO 1.27M, 0.6; 6) The 100 S2 premiere 1.54M,0.5; 7) JtV 1.36M, 0.5; 8) Reign 1.26M, 0.5 - - > 3-way demo tie

ETA#1 L+7 DVR results for week ending 10-26-14 – includes Tuesday 10 -21 (episode 3’s)

TVD – 0.8 to 1.4, 75%; TO – 0.7 to 1.2, 71%; The 100 Premiere 0.5 to 0.8, 60% - chart ended at 60%

No JtV (again), no TF/SPN, Arrow or Reign. But TF/SPN have the L+3 data (details posted above). So TF increase from 1.5 to at least 2.0 and SPN increased at least from 0.9 to 1.3 and likely both shows increased 5-10% more by the 7th day.

Evidently in the final, finals TO adjusted up from 0.6 as reported to 0.7 (sometimes happens to many shows including SPN at least twice - Neilson 'core' demos are always at least two/three significant figures and adjusted up or down to nearest whole number by most reporting sites) but there must not have been ‘enough' whatever) to increase JtV from 0.5 to 0.6.

HoD and Masters of Illusion return dates

via press release:
SOUTHERN-CHARMER “Hart Of Dixie” AND
MAGICAL “MASTERS OF ILLUSION”
RETURN FRIDAY, JANUARY 9

November 4, 2014 (Burbank, California) — The CW announced today that the new season of Hart Of Dixie will return with 10 episodes beginning Friday, January 9 (9:00-10:00pm ET). Rachel Bilson leads a stellar ensemble cast in this fish-out-of-water comedic drama about small-town living, big city attitudes and complicated love triangles set in quirky BlueBell, Alabama.

Also on January 9 (8:00-8:30pm ET), MASTERS OF ILLUSION will return with four original episodes, leading into encore episodes of WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY? (8:30-9:00pm ET). Hosted by actor Dean Cain (“Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman”), MASTERS OF ILLUSION showcases great escapes, fascinating sleight-of-hand and large scale illusions – each episode more spectacular than the one before – and all in front of a studio audience.

(Note - Rachel Bilson gave birth to daughter about a week ago. I read that the showrunner/writer wrote the S4 "Finale" to serve as a series finale but left sufficient storyline content to go for a S5 if renewed)

Finals 11-11-14

TF: 1.05 3.46M, 1.4
SPN: 10.05 2.17M, 0.9

I'm not overjoyed with last night's results but they don't suck as much I feared either. Some MC/Cas fans were actively boasting about boycotting last night (because MC wasn't in it) and with the speed of social media these days you can't tell definitely if his absence didn't harm the ratings.

The CW issued a PR concerning last night (there was a PR for Monday, too, as both TO and JtV rose but I'm not going to bother posting any more PR's except any Tuesdays for now):

CW PR 11-11-14

The CW's 'The Flash' Grows in Key Women & 'Supernatural' 200th Episode Rises in Adults 18-34 & 18-49
Written By Sara Bibel
November 12th, 2014
Via press release

Coming off last week’s repeat episode, THE FLASH held even with its last original episode on 10/28 in A18-34 (1.2/5), and A18-49 (1.4/4), and rose +10% in W18-34 (1.1/4) and +9% in W18-49 (1.2/3), and was basically flat in total viewers (3.4M).

THE FLASH ranked #3 in the hour in A18-34 and beat ABC in A18-49 and total viewers.

The special 200th episode of SUPERNATURAL had most watched episode (2.19M) since its season premiere, and rose versus its last original episode in all key demos, growing +14% in total viewers, +29% in A18-34 (0.9/3), and +12% in A18-49 (0.9/3).

Versus the last week of originals on 10/28, The CW’s Tuesday night was up +22% in A18-34 (1.1/4), +2% in total viewers (2.8M), and even in A18-49 (1.1/3).

The CW ranked #3 in A18-34 for the night among the broadcast nets.

THE FLASH is averaging a +49% increase in total viewers this season, +42% in A18-34, and +46% in A18-49 in Live + 7 Day ratings compared to Live + Same Day data.

SUPERNATURAL has averaged a +46% gain in total viewers, +44% in A18-34 and +51% in A18-49.

(I suspected SPN L+7 DVR results were higher - since the L+7 cutoff so far have been so high SPN (and TF) delayed viewing has missed the cutoff for reporting on tvbythenumbers.com )

However a poster on tvbtn is reporting a new source of expanded reporting from a poster on another site. I will be editing the 'L+7 DVR reports' as I have time, crediting the tvbtn poster and the source poster. (ETA 12-2-14: the 'TVBTN poster' has not updated since 'episode 2' week - the original source must have dried up or prevented the TVBTN poster from 'reposting')

ETA #1:
The CW ranks for this week (demo than viewers): 1) Flash M 3.46M, 1.4; 2) Arrow 2.60M, 0.9; 3) SPN 2.17M, 0.9 - - > demo tie with Arrow; 4) TVD 1.54M, 0.7; 5) TO 1.46M, 0.7 - -> demo tie with TVD; 6) The 100 1.75M, 0.5 7) JtV 1.22M, 0.5 - - > demo tie with The 100; 8) Reign 1.19M, 0.4

ETA #2:
More positive CW press about 11-11 TF & SPN 200th

The CW's 'The Flash' and 200th Episode of 'Supernatural' Deliver Best Ratings Since Season Premiere in Live +3 Ratings
Written By Sara Bibel
November 16th, 2014
via press note:

With Live +3 Day data now available, THE FLASH gained more than 2 million viewers in delayed viewing, rising +58% in total viewers (3.46M to 5.47M) compared to Live + Same Day viewing alone. It was THE FLASH's most watched episode since week 2 in L+3.

THE FLASH gained +55% in A18-34 (1.2 to 1.85), reaching its highest rating since the series premiere, and lifted +58% in A18-49 (1.38 to 2.18), its best since week 2.

In M18-34, THE FLASH rose +73% (1.27 to 2.2), and was the highest rated broadcast show of the night.

The 200th episode of Supernatural also saw significant increases in delayed viewing, and had its highest-rated and most-watched episode since its season premiere in L+3, gaining +35% in total viewers (2.16M to 2.92M), +35% in A18-34 (0.87 to 1.17), and 40% in A18-49 (0.92 to 1.3).

ETA #2: L+7 DVR results for week ending 11-16-14 (includes Tuesday ep 5’s)

TVD - 0.7 to 1.5, 114%; The 100 - 0.5 to 0.9, 80%; Reign - 0.4 to 0.7, 75%; TF - 1.4 to 2.4,71%; TO 0.7 to 1.2, 71%. Chart ended at 68%

No SPN* (0.9), Arrow (0.9)or JTV (0.5)

I guess SPN L+7's must not have increased enough to make the 68% cut-off – same with Arrow, but for SPN The CW released L+3 of 40%, so I’m guessing a little lower than TF (L+3 of 58% to L+7, 71%) equally maybe ~ 10% additional.

It is no longer true that SPN had the best viewer total since Jan 2014; 10.06 did have the best viewer total this season, slightly edging out the S10 premiere adjusted viewers but the S10 premiere had a higher demo - 1.1 vs 1.0)

'Supernatural' Soars with Most-Watched Episode Since January
Written By Amanda Kondolojy
November 19th, 2014
via press notes:

THE FLASH kept up a steady pace last night, with its most watched episode (3.58M) since 10/21, and holding even week to week in A18-34 (1.2/4), M18-34 (1.3/6), and M18-49 (1.6/6).

THE FLASH was #3 in the hour in A18-34, and #4 in A18-49 (1.3/4).
At 9pm, Supernatural had huge gains week to week, with its most watched episode (2.63M) since 1/28/14, up +21% vs. last week's 200th episode.

Supernatural also matched its season high in A18-34 (1.1/4), +22% week to week, and tied its season best in M18-34 (1.2/5), and rose +11% over last week in A18-49 (1.0/3).

Supernatural was tied for #2 in the hour in A18-34, beating ABC's Agents of SHIELD, and NBC, and also drew more total viewers than Fox in the hour.

Supernatural was #1 in the hour in M18-34.

For the night, The CW was #2 (tie) in A18-34 (1.1/4), and #1 in M18-34 (1.3/5). It was The CW's most watched Tuesday night (3.1M) since 10/14/14, up +10% in total viewers over last week.

The CW's Tuesday was also up +9% in A18-49 (1.2/4) week to week and held steady in A18-34.

ETA #1:

The CW ranks for this week (demo than viewers): 1) Flash M 3.73M, 1.4 ; 2) SPN 2.54M, 1.0 ; 3) Arrow 2.64M, 0.9; 4) TVD 1.68M, 0.8; 5) TO 1.44M, 0.7 6) The 100 1.64M, 0.6 - -> S2 high demo; 7) JtV 1.09M, 0.4; 8) Reign 1.10M, 0.3 - -> series low

ETA #2 : L+7 DVR results for week ending 11-23-14 (includes Tuesday ep 6’s)

Reign – 0.3 to 0.7, 133%; TVD – 0.8 to 1.4, 75%; JtV - 0.4 to 0.7, 75%; Arrow – 0.9 to 1.5, 67%; TF – 1.4 to 2.3, 63%. Chart ended at 62%

No TO (0.7), SPN (1.0) or The 100 (0.6). Unfortunately I have no other data for SPN 10.06 besides the CW PR. Any of the three shows might have increased by 60% and would not have made this chart.TVBTN's 'Amanda' and 'Sara' are no longer answering many questions for shows that didn't make the cut off.

HoD S4 to premiere early behind JtV fall finale

Also posted on TVBTN

"THE CW GIVES "HART OF DIXIE" FANS AN EARLY HOLIDAY PRESENT

Season Premiere to Bow Monday, Dec. 15

Paired with Fall Finale of JANE THE VIRGIN ... "

More on website – I’m assuming the HoD will re-air the S4 premiere on Friday, Jan 9, 2015 as previously announced but I could be wrong.

Relocating the HoD S4 premiere to Dec 15 is a good idea because TO's Fall Finale is Dec 8. The CW could have aired a rerun of WLIIA in the 8 pm slot. The CW could be trying out an HoD/JtV pairing (or JtV/HoD) for a possible Friday partnership. JtV is currently second of bottom on The CW Fall ratings index... in the first season. JtV should be more compatible with HoD.
